Dorgan Bruun wrote:Bruun looks thoughtful, some of the initial shock subsiding. He scratches at his beard, stops, then snorts.

"We got more hot blood than cool heads to go around. And cool in battle ain't the same thing as cool the rest of the time," he looks at Andrea without thinking, "so I reckon I better watch it. Guess it is my job now to keep y'all alive." Bruun huffs.

"What'd I get myself into," he says, half joking.

Andrea raises her brow at that comment, "Perhaps. And...you have gotten yourself 3 other people you are now responsible for in one manner of another."

Gillian Chow wrote:"Nice to meet you, Sergeant," she said, nodding to DeTroyes. "I'm Gillian Chow."

Her eyes shift to the one lance mate she hadn't met yet, "Andrea Océane Laurette DeTroyes, a pleasure to meet you in person Miss Chow." Her smile turned from the sarcastic smirk she had while talking to Bruun to a more friendly sort.

Yuri Creed wrote:That actually made him laugh. "Well, we have a man who bows his head to the floor, some who have never saluted in their lives... I didn't realize I'd need to set a standard until we were already in the midst of things."

Offering her a crisp salute, he waited for her to return it, and then added, "This wasn't how I planned to be going over all this - I'd planned tactical briefings, but events have rather taken over things. Try and give them a chance - that's all I ask, Sergeant."

Fortunately for both of them, Felicity was fairly easy to nudge out of a mood. She returned the salute with a professional snap salute of her own. She felt a little better.

"Will do Sir."

She moved out of the way so she could pin her rank insignia somewhere. In the end it had to be to her hoodie. She would have to consider her clothing choices.

Snorri's words and high five offer had definitely been missed by her when she had been wound up.

Re: Final Assessment (Day 1, EE)

Bruun waves to Freja as he, Gillian and Andrea have ended up with an impromptu lance meeting. His subconscious is trying to remember any leader who he liked and how they did things like communicating. Hellfire, I'm gonna have to learn some things.

He doesn't know Freja well -- or, at all, really -- but he reinforces the wave with a holler at her: "Hey Fogel, join us please."

Re: Final Assessment (Day 1, EE)

Freja had been spacing out somewhere; which did *not* bode well for her usefulness in battle, perhaps. But, having someone yell your name had a habit of taking you back out of daydreaming and into the moment.

She looked a little startled for a moment, then approached.

"Uhm, present"

Re: Final Assessment (Day 1, EE)

"Alright, welcome," Bruun says to his lance mates. "We all heard what the major said: Stick together, keep people safe. That's how we'll do whatever jobs get assigned." Bruun sounds more like he knows what he's doing than he would have guessed. "Some of you know, I've been doing this a long time. I aim to keep doing it longer, and I aim for all y'all to keep doing it at least until this contract ends."

He tries to make it sound gruff, soldier-like, but the scruffy mechwarrior mostly sounds like a worrying father.

"Don't bother with too much 'first sergeant' business either. I'm still Bruun, or Sergeant Bruun around people who ain't Fortunate Ones, but that's all you need." He pauses a moment. "Any o'y'all have call signs? Reckon I've gotten a new one in every company I've been in, so we might just see what comes." He looks for the other mechwarriors' reactions.

Re: Final Assessment (Day 1, EE)

"We're supposed to have call signs too?" She asked in a monotone deadpan that made it impossible to tell if she was being serious or not.

"I haven't even figured out my gimmick yet."

Re: Final Assessment (Day 1, EE)

Bruun looks at Freja in confusion, not having been part of the gimmick conversation, but responds with, "Um, y'all can have a gimmick if you want. Sure don't need one..." He looks thoughtful for a moment, scratching at his beard.

"Yeah, I don't think I have a gimmick. Maybe staying alive is my gimmick," he laughs. "Let's go this way. If you want me to call you something other than Fogel, Chow and Andrea -- she already told me to call her that --" the man points to each of them as he says their names, "then you tell me. But, for a call sign -- your fellow mechwarriors will give you one that fits. It ain't something you just get to pick. Like, uh, I once served with a guy we called Goldenboy. Damn pretty, good at everything... I hated that guy. High-born, popular and successful... Anyway, you see where Goldenboy fit as his callsign, and it wasn't a compliment." He checks that the team is following his rather meandering explanation.

Re: Final Assessment (Day 1, EE)

Almost as if on cue, Yuri wandered over to this particular group, a large metal cooler with drinks in his hands.

Setting it down, he pulled out a can of... Deep Galactic Double Stout, and offered it to Bruun, inquiring, "You sorting things out, you ol' Salt?"

Re: Final Assessment (Day 1, EE)

"I still think everyone needs a gimmick," she said, maintaining her tone.

Bruun's gimmick was that he was old, clearly.

"And nobody's given me a callsign yet."

She probably had a callsign at one point, but no use trying to remember it now.

Re: Final Assessment (Day 1, EE)

"Keeping it real simple, sir. 'Do what the major said. Stay together; stay alive.' Deadpan over here says she needs a gimmick and a call sign. But we'll work through it." He smiles in a combination of discomfort and exhaustion, happily taking the beer, but waiting on drinking until the others are similarly armed.
