Event: Be Very Quiet, I'm Hunting Origami Cats (Day 4, EE)

Situation: There are agents with unknown loyalties loose among the crew of new hires, and Anastasia Winters is not happy. Neither is anyone else in leadership, but she is particularly pointed about the need to vet a certain remaining set of new hires who have slightly incomplete backgrounds.

Accordingly, a series of interviews have been discretely arranged, with a handful of known quantities serving as interviewer.

Participants: up to four characters

Rules:

Each character must interview two suspects, without giving away the purpose of the interview. Each interview consists of the following steps. If any step is failed, the interview ends. If multiple suspects are revealed, all but one will be red herrings.

Step 1: In order to avoid giving up the game, they must pretend to be correcting a clerical error as part of preparations for payroll. This is accomplished via a communications(deceit)/Awareness check vs TN 15. A character can add their commerce skill as a static bonus.
If failed, the issue is immediately resolved and the interview ends without gaining any leads.

Step 2: After beginning the conversation, they must gently steer it toward the sensitive topic without it seeming unnatural. This is a Protocol/Awareness check vs TN 15.
If failed, they cannot find a way to steer the conversation, and the interview is a bust.

Step 3: They need to determine whether there is anything wrong with the answers they are getting once they reach the sensitive portion of the discussion. This is either an Interrogation/Awareness or Investigation/Perception check at a TN of 25. (Bad eyesight would not apply) If failed, in the end, the character does not find anything wrong and have to wrap up the conversation.

Step 4: After discovering the potential discrepancy, they have to avoid giving away their own realization that they might be talking with a trained killer. This is an Acting/Willpower check vs a TN of 20. If they fail, they succeed in finding a suspicious crewman, but at the same time tip off the crewman of their suspicion. Failing this roll grants the character the sworn enemy disadvantage, if multiple characters fail at this stage, one random sworn enemy will be the agent, the remainder are simply worried crewman with troubled pasts.

After the event is complete, Anastasia will take the data for review, giving no further direction for the moment.

It bothered Aly that he hadn't been able to vet everyone on the crew. He'd been brought in too late to account for everyone and now he was chasing after saboteurs.

His first interview did not go well. The man only wanted to discuss compensation for expenses. He had a fistful of wadded up receipts that he kept trying to hand Aly.

The second suspect was easier. The conversation went well and Aly noted a few discrepancies. He pressed a little two hard, however. If he'd found his quarry, then they'd found him as well.

Re: Event: Be Very Quiet, I'm Hunting Origami Cats (Day 4, E

Ben figured he would give it a shot with the interviews he was usually a pretty good judge of people and despite being quiet was a pretty good talker when the situation warranted. The first interview was short the guy bought the whole clerical error thing but Ben just couldn't get a grip on the interview and had to let him go.

The second one started fantastically, Ben had all the right words at every turn but unfortunately when combing through the paper work and despite every question he asked Ben just couldn't find any reason to indicate this woman was anything but legit.

After both interviews he shrugged, wrote up his reports and handed them in, hoping that others had some better luck than him in finding the agent.

Re: Event: Be Very Quiet, I'm Hunting Origami Cats (Day 4, E

As the interviews came to an end, two leads had been discovered, and one of them had nasty suspicions of their own about their interviewer.

Taking the data, Anastasia Winters departed to her quarters, giving everyone present a reminder to discuss this with no-one, or she'd know the reason why.
