Bottom Deck Locations

The Bottom decks of the Calico are dominated by the massive fusion engines which drive the ship in and out of atmosphere, and any space remaining is taken up by the cavernous mech hangars.

Engineering
The engineering section houses the main Fusion reactor which drives the ship, along with the massive engine housings which ring the bottom of the 'egg' hull of the Calico. This area is strictly off limits and trespassers will be escorted out by force if caught, though the section is such a maze of metal piping, criss-crossing gantries, access ports, and is so cramped, hot, and dangerous, that nobody not accustomed to the place would really have much like navigating it anyway.

Mech Hangars
This 35ft tall, donut shaped room features three stories of maintenance gantries, with automated hydraulics to allow access to various locations on any mech under repair. A small control room hangs overhead, attached to the ceiling and accessible by motorized zip line or a ladder from the uppermost gantry. This controls the 3 massive doors which are spaced around the base of the ship, allowing exit for mechs on the ground. Near the center of the hangar, one north, one south, two squat metal tubes sit, sealed shut with pressure sealed doors - these can be used for airborne mech deployment when a drop harness is required - though it isn't clear if the Calico has any drop harnesses available for use. The space is cluttered with parts, small vehicles, and personnel - as the only truly spacious area on the ship, many members of the crew use it as a recreation center when mechs aren't inside, and seem reluctant to move out of the space even when mechs do occupy the 12 alcoves that ring the central pillar. A mechwarrior finding their mech used as a scaffold to hold a volleyball net is not an uncommon occurrence, and is something that most passengers learn to live with.
