Event: Go to Hell (Day 3, EM)

Situation: Following their defeat the prior day, the Slate Eaters have abandoned their stranded and mangled vehicles and retreated south past the entire Gate - making any chance of them posing a threat for the immediate future extremely unlikely. In light of this, Lucretzia has ordered a trip be made to try and reconnoiter and map the first half of the Gate and get a better view of the terrain in case they need to travel that way in the future.

Participants: Four Mechwarriors(with mechs), any number of Infantry, Scientists, etc

Rules: - Stage one begins after mechwarriors join - stage two is open to all participants.

Results: - Tied to each stage -

NOTE: This is not a combat thread so there is no need for concern about joining future threads.

Snorri had been pushing for map making before and schelps along the field delay and his holotable.

"Need me doing the visual sweeps?"

"Go ahead DJ."

With some of the other mechs still being repaired, such as the Wyvern and Valkyrie, there were only so many operational. Due to that she had had to wake up and get showered and ready faster than she would have liked. Felicity's mech stomped along in the middle of the pack. The Gate awaited.

The small form of a Commando kept easy stride next to the other mechs, "Approaching where we were ambushed." Andrea adds through the comms. Her eyes were shifting between sensors and her cockpit window. Ready for a round two with whatever might be still out here.

“Cicada standing by,” Gillian reported over the comms as her mech strode up to join the formation.

Stage 1 - (Originally this was the Halloween event. Lost opportunities)

Field of the Damned!

As the mechwarriors entered the gate, the tall mountain walls rose on either side, slowly deepening the shadows as they wound deeper and deeper into the mountain pass. The sensors began to get strange ghost readings, blips that appeared and vanished - the sort of thing common in highly metallic or radioactive regions, or those with high levels of geothermal energy. That was what the mechwarriors told themselves, anyway...

Then, without warning, a mech signature appeared on scope, practically in front of them! Two signatures! Three! In the darkness the shapes of hostile battlemechs loomed, lit by volcanic light and the perhaps the souls of the damned. In the very fore, a skull shaped horror.

The target recognition computer beeped that it was detecting an Atlas, but it was a battle between knee-jerk response, twitch reflex, and the higher brain functions mechwarriors claimed to rely upon.

Rules: You've stumbled into a mech graveyard of the spookiest sort - one filled with mechs clearly lost in battle, and in a location that plays merry hell with sensor readings. It's a constant battle between the mechwarrior's self-control and their urge to shoot the newest sensor blip as they scout the canyon.

Each mechwarrior must make a series of rolls, or risk destroying possibly valuable salvage (and expending ammunition) by neutralizing the 'threat.'

Each roll is a a test of the mechwarrior's nerve, made by rolling Willpower+Expertise rank as a static bonus. The TNs are 10, 15, 20, and 25. Each failure will result in a panic shot being taken and potentially destroying possible salvage.

"Stay focused. There's something on sensors."

Felicity soon became on edge as the shapes appeared in the hazy light, her sensors already having warned her there would be possible hostiles. The smaller Spider she nearly bumped into didn't worry her. It was a Spider. However, the Centurion did as it was a clear threat. She snapped a shot off before she could calm down and confirm it was far too damaged to be a threat.

"I-I don't know what this place is, but s-s-some of these are definitely non-factual. Non-functional I mean." Felicity nervously swiveled her mech around as she moved forward. She'd been out to the side so she was one of the last to come across the Atlas. To her credit, she hadn't shot it when seeing it from the side.

Then her sensors identified it as an Atlas and she quickly opened fire! Shit, an Atlas?! SHOOT, SHOOT!

"IT'S AN ATLAS! AHHH!"

(Felicity fires twice)

Snorri is not panicked. No.

He just is relying upon battle instinct. If there is a target with a reading that like you hit it.

Andrea remains relatively calm until Fee's panicked message and Snorri's wild shots.

Twice her weapons lance out, before she regains composure.

Starring at an Atlas she clenches her jaw in rage. « Casse-toi, Winston ! »

She reddened upon realizing her comm was on.

At first, Gillian wasn't sure what the others were firing at, but the panic sweeping the formation was infectious. When the Cicada's sensors went haywire, she was sure they were under attack.

"Enemy contact! We're taking fire over here!" she reported as she took two shots from her particle cannon at one of the ominously shadowy mechs that appeared to be lumbering towards them.
