Event: The Sun Never Sets (Day 6, LE)

Situation: As the force arrived at the Starport, the Black Dragon mechs were visible, a half circle of seven mechs, spread about the base of the dropship, definitely worse for wear. The setting sun framed everything in harsh contrasts, long shadows cast over the entire scene.

After a long moment of silence, Yuri strode forward, keying his radio, and then giving a simple message.

"Tai-sa Hiroyuki, you are outdone. You have nowhere to run - no world will harbor you, and the Coordinator has closed the gates of his realm to you. There is no future for you or your people." The cold wind buffeted his armless mech, almost comical, if not for the gravity of the situation, as he continued. "You are a warrior - you have lived as one your entire life, and now you wish to die as one. In that, at least, I offer you salvation. We are here, now, to settle this matter as warriors. We are here to give you a warrior's death. Come and face us in open battle, and it will be given to you, on my honor as a warrior who fought alongside the Kanrei in many wars."

There was a protracted silence, and then a reply. "You talk of honor, yet you have one among your ranks, hiding among her fellows, who speaks insults yet will not back them up by her own strength. Have that one stand in your vanguard, where she cannot escape, and you will have your battle - your honor I trust, but not that of your people, lest it is backed up with actions, and not just words."

Yuri scowled, where none could see, and then keyed up his mic. "Detroyes. Get up here, unless you're all talk, as the man seems to think."

Seeing the pair, the black dragons wheeled, marching forward in a line. Finally, after a long time, watching them approach, they stopped. The Battlemaster stiffly bowed, the motion shallow, thanks to the limitations of the mech, but Yuri also mimed the motion, and said, simply, "Weapons free. Shoot to kill people."

Participants: Vanguard Lance, Fire Support Lance.

Rules: This is a combat thread. There is a very real chance of injury, dispossession, or death.

The goal of this combat is the complete destruction or surrender of the enemy - no quarter will be asked or given without express orders from Major Creed. Now is the time to show that the Fortunate Ones can fight to the finish, as well as bleed the enemy. Yesterday was the day for tactics and finesse, and today is the day for raw will and the strength to fight through.

Any character forced to eject will have to attempt to escape on foot, get picked up by a friendly mech, or hide until the battle has moved on in order to escape capture and possible execution.

Bruun grumbles a lot, but the plan seems pretty obvious: Save Creed and Andrea from getting dogpiled by heavier mechs.

"Vanguard, all ahead full. Let's get to better range and then have some fun."

Running
Forward to 2213
Fire LRM at Wolverine

Andrea strode up beside the Major when called with hesitation and flicked on the comms, « Bonsoir Colonel. » She didn't bow her mech, « Vous êtes prêt à mourir ? »

She pushes Olivier backwards, attempting a light jog into the wood line. From there she fires at the Battlemaster.

Back into 1607, turn to face 1608, back into 1606, back into 1605. (Walking)

Fire both LLs at the Battlemaster

"Let's see what you can do."

Felicity jumped her mech forward into the woods to target the Vindicator with her long range missiles.

(Jump to 1121 facing NW. LRMs at the Vindicator.)

Snorri did his best to remind himself that the Thorn isn't slow. Rather, his Hussar had been exceptionally fast. Still, some instincts should still serve him well.

"Fire Support this is DJ. I think I see a bit of cover to close the range. Then I'm thinking of trying to circle north. If one of you spots for me, I think I can hit with indirect fire. "

Run to 1118

Gillian’s Cicada advanced along the road at a steady pace. She took careful aim at the enemy line; they were inside her particle cannon’s effective range, but just barely.

Start 3011 facing NW. 7x Forward to end in 2308 facing NW. Fire PPC at Wolverine in 0605 (long range, walking) - or if I can't see Wolverine, whichever target is easiest to hit. Overall objective: move closer at a walk, and take a shot at somebody, whomever I have the best chance to hit.

The battle began with a fierce exchange of long range fire, PPC blasts and missile volleys arcing over the shallow valley, but largely failing to connect. As Andrea withdrew into the trees, she pivoted, firing twin azure beams, one of which slashed the Battlemaster (CT hit, 8 damage) leaving a nasty glowing scar, but in turn, the incoming volley managed to catch her as an LRM swarm from the Dragon detonated along her her mech. (Hit RA+CT, 5+3 damage)

All around the battlefield shots impacted in empty buildings, trees, and open ground, but one other shot struck home, Blondie proving she still had fight in her, as all 10 LRMs from the chest launcher spiraled out, smashing into the Vindicator and shattering away armor (Hit RL+RA, 5+5 damage).

The Black Dragon units continued to push forward, a cry of "Banzai!" coming through the speakers as they continued their charge.

---- Situation ----

Firefly (Bruun) -- no damage -- 0 heat
Ostsol (Andrea) -- no damage -- 1 heat
Cicada (Gillian) -- no damage -- 0 heat
Falcon (Ryougi?) -- no damage -- 0 heat

Seeing the engaging forces, the Crab moved. He wasn't as mobile or agile as the thorn and needed to be more careful with his heat.

Seeing his companions on the other side of the hill, he built a distraction he hoped they'd take advantage of.

((Move to 321 facing as close to the enemy as possible, fire as much as possible at the nearest target.))

Gillian continued her cautious advance, moving up to a position where she could support Yuri’s Grand Dragon.

-
Start 2308 facing NW. Left, Forward, Forward, right, end 2109 facing NW. Fire PPC at Battlemaster (medium range, walking - or whomever I have the best chance to hit, if I can’t see that). Overall objective: walk to cover, shoot at somebody.
