Event: Message in a Bottle (Day 16, EA, Observatory)

by Comstar
Situation: Lucretzia Winters has brought her most senior staff to examine the observatory - and while much of the facility is damaged or ruined by encroaching nature, those areas were also the public facing sections of little value to anyone who wasn't a cultural archaeologist with a focus on tacky tourist traps. The main equipment is still functional, and remarkably capable - and the data logs on station are massive.

They don't have time to go over everything with a fine tooth comb, so she's asking her staff to give a focused exploration of the interior to try and find more information about the message relay, or possibly to even send another message... there were many questions and she wanted to gather as much information as they could before enemies arrived - it was possible they didn't know about the station, and if that was the case, then she wanted to avoid drawing attention to the location, so they weren't going to remain there long.

Participants: Echo Company Staff, NPC soldiers

Rules: There is enough time to attempt five 'actions', which are basically a series of rolls presented by the GM based upon what approaches the players wish to take and what information they want to try and find. This is an RP thread, so players should join and discuss before settling on a goal and method, at which point Comstar will provide necessary rolls for the attempt. No particular approach can be tried more than once.

Aloysius watched and listen while everyone prepared for the task at hand. He had his encryption suite with him, in case it was needed. But, he knew most of the work here would fall to the others.

Dr. Reinhardt filed in with the others sipping coffee and sharing smiles.

Colette brought some treats as well as a fresh pot of coffee. Her little friend followed her. She picked up the small thing and giggled. She looked up to find Lucretzia looking at her.

Jan was there, being even more grumpy than usual, as if something about the whole situation was disconcerting him deeply. Quite naturally for him, he would try to physics the hell out of this problem, by getting the data for the equations from wherever they were stored and then calculating whatever he could about the relevant system on the night sky.

Lucretzia and Ana were also there, Ana staying moodily in one APC while Lucretzia, in her trademark black jacket and shades, strode across the rocky ground in those heeled boots.

Fixing the four with a look, she said, firmly, "We don't have particularly long here - best you figure out what you want to study and let's get started. I imagine a general record of the place might be useful, but alternately, it may be more useful to go directly after the big issues - it's worth seeing if we can make contact through this message system somehow, or gather any other relevant data... you've been deep in the weeds, so if there is anything you know we need, best we get started there."

"I think Documentation would be important, as well as finding the signal source, and whatever Professor Novak might learn from the equipment itself, does anyone have any suggestions on other goals or opinions on those?"

"Anything flagged for the observatory director or documented by them should be useful." He looked around at all of the equipment. "Is there anything physical we should look for?"

"I want to focus on whatever astronomical data can be retrieved on whatever was observed here. As a second priority, I'll deal with equipment. Unless the former depends on the latter."

Colette gave it some thought to what she could do to help. She sighed. "I don't know if it will help but if Monsieur Novak and Dr Ren will be analyzing data I could try and do an inventory of videos of ze facilities. if we return or send anozer crew, zey can compare if somezing is amiss."
