EM4 - Briefing Room - Crunching Numbers

After his time in the mechbay Octavian makes his way up to use the briefing room computers and download the info he picked up from the bunker and star port yesterday. He attempts to see if he can triangulate the locations on the bunker map with previous maps of the planet, or current scans.

The map overlaid the planetary map surprisingly well - though the results... didn't quite fit.

It was as if the map was somehow... wrong.

It was clear from the spacing that the red marks were split, two on Asphodel, and one on Limbo.

But one was in the ocean, which didn't fit.

Everything seemed to be shifted, though he'd have to think about in what way.

Starts by trying to use the metal deposit they detected on the southern continent as a line up with the Limbo map to see if that would shift things to a more reasonable position.

The map he had downloaded had no mineral deposits on it.

Octavian made an assumption that the Mineral deposits previous identified as man made, and assumed to be a crashed jump ship, might actually be the fortified bunker of Jacobs Redoubt, and that the Redoubt is the red mark on the continent of limbo. He lined the Red mark on limbo from the downloaded map with the mineral deposit from the orbital one, and used them as a reference point to re-align the other dots.

That did it, and now he had 2 marks glowing on the map which he knew, and one that he did not, in the eastern fringe of Asphodel, hidden among the mountains. The map resolution was sufficiently poor that it still covered a few dozen square miles... but it was a searchable region.

Reinhardt activates the Comm to his boss, "Miss Winters, sorry to bother you so early, but I have some information you may want to see."

A long pause, and then a confirmation. "I'll be on my way."

It was approximately seven minutes later that she appeared, wearing her black coat, black sweat pants, and black fuzzy cat slippers.

She glared at him, as if daring him to say something.

"What have you got, Doctor?"

"First I am afraid that it appears we were wrong about the metal deposits in Limbo, it's not a crashed jump ship, its a Star League era military installation called Jacobs Redoubt, they activated the self destruct during the Amaris assault on this planet in the first succession war, but the charges failed to explode, they may still be primed so we will want to be very careful when we explore it."

He pauses for comments.

"Interesting. I assume you have proof of work."

She pulled out her glasses, placing them on her nose.

"Go on."
