Day 7-14 Summary

The ten days which follow the battle with the Black Dragon invaders were relatively quiet. The weather stayed generally cold, but clear, and progress on the repairs of the Calico continued apace, while the mechs were, by and large, pieced back together.

Progress on the search in Elysian mountains continued, but hadn't yet turned up results, though the majority of the ground has been covered so it's only a matter of time. On the other hand, progress in disarming the failsafe charges above the SLDF redoubt is almost complete. The company has used the time to rest and recover, a little bit of R&R granting a chance for worn nerves and short tempers to recover.

All said, it was a quiet ten days, spent with simple busywork that allowed the company a chance to breathe.

Interesting moments -

Astech 1: For a man who likes fixing mechs, I've never seen Just Technician James show such absolute hatred for a machine before that Wolverine.
Astech 2: You really shouldn't keep calling him that... but you're right.
Astech 1: It's like... did someone use one to hurt you in the past? What did the Wolverine ever do to you?

Security Guard: So then I see this tiny little mech toy walking around, darned cutest thing I've ever seen. You think maybe that Colette is more than she's letting on? She seems to have a knack for all kinds of handywork...
Crewman: Oh yeah, and I'd love to experience her handywor-
Security Guard: Stop.

Female Soldier: You know, he's still a total lech, but Snorri doesn't seem to have his heart in trying to get in my pants lately.
Crewwoman: Yeah... you know, I think he's sweet on that Canopian girl.
Female Soldier: I'm glad he's stopped being so pushy... but also a little jealous, I think?
Crewwoman: I understand that... ugh. I need a drink.

Lily Fielding: So that little ray of sunshine put it in before the the raid, and somehow, it made it through unscathed while a damn falcon landing on half the rest of my stock. So you know it's a lucky brew.
Sheriff: I'm still not paying double for it.
Lily Fielding: Do you want to break Colette's heart? Sheriff, so cold!
Sheriff: ... Fine. Don't tell my wife I paid extra.
Lily Fielding: Teehee
... I wouldn't dare.

Astech 1: I've never seen techs reconfigure old parts and rebuild an entire cooling system in the field before...
Astech 2: That's why they're the mechtechs, and we're the astechs. Still, I didn't even know how you configure a 'double heat sink' until James showed me. That man knows everything about lostec... not sure why he's out here instead of in some university, honestly.
Astech 1: Yeah, it's crazy. The pair of them are slave drivers... but they work themselves harder than all of us! An entire demi-company back in fighting shape in ten days, including a total overhaul of a Heavy.
Astech 2: It was a lot of work, but I feel a little proud. Look at it - one of a kind ride for the Major now. Better cooling, and those pulse lasers the eggheads found, with that double SRM rack and extra armor he requested. Apparently he wants to put himself up front to keep his more reckless pilots alive.
Astech 1: Damn... these kids don't know how lucky they are.

Samuel: ...
Chef: Listen kid, either say something or go away. I'm busy trying to keep my job while little miss sunshine flits about.
Samuel: You have waffles?
Chef: ... Yeah. Check the freezer. Weird kid...

Alexei: ...
Third Origami Cat: ...
Alexei: Shit.

Alexei: I'm a little worried. She's been spending a lot of time in the simulators. I appreciate that she's trying hard but... I don't want to be responsible for her having heat syncope.
Technician: I've tried disabling some of the heat but she complained. She's kind of scary, Captain.
Alexei: Yeah, I guess I'll have to talk to her about it... still, at that age being able to keep a fighter steady through a turn - By the time she's old enough to enroll at an academy she'll be flying loops around her classmates. Imagine how good this kid could be some day.
Technician: Sir, I'd rather not.
