Human Edge

Situation: There was a brief interlude in the fighting, but already, the Black Dragon forces were on the advance again after reforming into lances and bringing up some of their reserves - the company having performed an extremely risky and damaging maneuver, stuffing two mechs into the drop chutes for the duration of the journey - something the captain of the Montenegro would like be cursing for years to come, considering the strain it would've put on the ship and its systems.

Still, the Black Dragons had gotten them out after a great deal of effort and further system damage, and they filled the gaps in each formation as the Black Dragon gave chase... the main force pursuing Yuri and the Fire support lance into highlands, while a single heavy lance pushed south toward Human Edge - ready to finish what they'd started, unless Vanguard lance was able to intervene.

Rules: This is a combat thread. There is a very real chance of injury, dispossession, or death.

The evacuation of Human Edge was nearly complete. The final APC was being loaded, and would soon be ready to move (Able to move beginning with round 3). The Vanguard Lance is tasked with helping it escape, and roughing up the Black Dragon units as much as possible in the process. The force can withdraw from the south, if necessary, to rally for a final defense near the Calico.

Buildings vary in size and durability - if in doubt about LOS, please state in your post whether you want me to focus on getting the shot you want, cover you want, or movement you want - so if I have to compromise to make a turn work you want, I know what you prefer. Thanks.

The Cicada advanced cautiously to engage the enemy Jenner on the left flank, hoping to cover the APC's retreat.

Start 0114 facing NE. Left, Forward (upslope), Forward, Forward. End in 0110 facing N. Fire PPC at Jenner #1 in 0207. Main objective is to move to a defensible position where I can take a shot at the Jenner.

As the hostiles arrived at the edge of the city, Vanguard lance began preparing to meet them. Throttling her Cicada forward, Gillian confronted the first Jenner, guns blazing. Unfortunately, the shots went wide, the PPC and Machine guns shattering trees and breaking apart earth, but not hitting the Jenner, which fired back at the Cicada, one laser and two missiles impacting on the mech, the rest slipping past. The armor on the chest and left leg held, but the right leg armor gave out, leaving only the metal skeleton holding the limb together. (Hit RL+CT+LL, 5+2+2 damage)

The Falcon leapt skyward, bounding into the air and attempting to land atop the town general store. Unfortunately, the building was not strong enough for the weight, and the roof collapsed inward, dumping the Falcon onto the ground and shaking Ryougi roughly in her harness, such that she saw stars. (Falling debris hits LA, 5 damage, Fall damage hits RL+LT+RT, 5+5+2 damage, Pilot Injured, passes roll to remain awake) The Sentinel and Wolverine both attempted to hit the mech, but couldn't track it as it fell. The falcon's PPC fired, blowing a hole in the side.

The eastern Jenner fired twin beams and four missiles at the Firefly, but the shots slipped past, hitting buildings and smashing out windows. In return, The Firefly launched 3 emerald beams and a volley of missiles in response, one beam arced over an office building, scattering, but the two other beams carving into the Jenner, with three missiles close behind. (Hit RA+RA+RL, 5+5+3, RA destroyed) The Ostsol, pivoting, fired twin azure beams. The first missed wide, but the second drilled directly into the mech torso, slagging away armor and structure, and then igniting the SRM magazine, removing it from the battlefield in a massive plume of chained explosions, shaking the earth as the ammunition cooked off (Hit RT, 8 damage, critical hit Jump Jet, Jump Jet, SRM ammo, Ammo explosion. 160 damage, Mech destroyed)

The Black Dragon's close the gap, and then sensors beeped as multiple vehicles powered up, and a single mech.

A trio of old combat vehicles roared out of a garage, and then an Urbanmech with an absurdly large gun stomped out from the police station, declaring via loudspeaker. "Invading Force. You are under arrest!"

As the remaining Jenner turned away from her mech to face the center of the combat, Gillian gunned the Cicada into high gear, advancing through the trees to try and outflank the enemy line.

Start 0110 facing N. Forward (trees), forward, forward, forward (trees), right, forward (trees and slope), right. End 0205 facing SE. Fire PPC at Jenner. Overall goal is to run to a flanking position where I can shoot at the Jenner, ideally without getting too much return fire.

Ghosting instructions if you need them: stay in cover, try and finish off the last Jenner, nibble at enemy flanks.

Move to 0712 facing northwest (walk) twist north. Fire one LL and both MLs at sentinel.

The arrival of the sheriff and his crew turned a messy situation into absolute chaos. The Sentinel turned, trying to split fire, missing the ruby laser beam and one of the two missiles it fired at the Ostsol, only a single warhead popping on the heavy mech's knee (Hit RL, 2 damage). The PPC pivoted, firing at the Urbanmech that had waddled into view with sirens blaring, smashing the left leg and fusing the ankle joint (Hit LL, 10 damage) The damage threw off the Sheriff's shot, the massive cannon belching a shell so large it was visible as it arced away over the nearest building, impacting outside city limits with a resounding thump of an explosion. The Ostsol retaliated with three shots, the twin emerald beams sliding off target, but the Azure beam carved a deep gash into the Sentinel's chest armor (hit CT, 8 damage)

Teetering, the sheriff fell with a sad sort of 'weeooweoooo", landing with a thud. (hit CT, 3 damage, pilot injured, pilot awake)

The Battlemaster, tracking the armored Personnel carrier as it trundled away, trying to get to a better range, fired for emerald beams, and two of them carved into the small vehicle, melting away the side and burning out the internal mechanisms (Hit LS+LS, 10 damage, vehicle destroyed). The twin lasers on the back shoulders tracked the Packrat as it squealed past, also going for distance, one of them carving away armor in a neat line (hit LS, 5 damage)

The Wolverine fired all it's weapons at the Galleon as it rumbled forward, removing armor in explosions of autocannon rounds, and melting it into droplets with the medium laser. (hit LS+RR, 5+5 damage, critical hit motive system) The Galleon retaliated, one side mounted small laser missing, and the emerald beam of the turret smashing into the wolverine's canopy (Hit HD, 5 damage, Pilot injured, Pilot awake) A volley of LRMs spiraled in from the Firefly, knocking off armor from the Wolverine's arm in a trio of detonations. (Hit RA, 3 damage) The Jenner reversed it's lasers, firing back at the Cicada, missing wide, and belching SRMs at the Packrat, which scattered into the trees pathetically. In turn, the Packrat fired a pair of SRMs, one of which clipped the Jenner in the leg. (Hit LL, 2 damage)

The Cicada missed, but was also untouched by the exchange.

Steaming hot, the Battlemaster stomped forward, while the remaining mediums fanned out, and the Jenner turned, trying to face Gillian.

Seeing the Urbanmech go down, hearing the end of the APC. Andrea growls, pushes her mech forward. Coming around to the back of the Sentinel she fires all four forward facing lasers and delivers a hard kick to the mech. Flicking on to the general comms she says in Japanese, "Honorless dogs! Your own dragon names you filthy, putrid worms! WHY DON'T YOU JUST ALL DIE!"

Fire all four lasers into Sentinel. Kick Sentinel.

Spinning her mech around, Gillian dodged the approaching Jenner, and instead sprinted toward the exposed back of the Sentinel, weapons blazing.
