Human Edge

Theodore made his way through town towards where he had been told the diner was. He had bothered to clean up a bit and throw one the new uniform but that was as much for the overcoat as anything. Spotting the sign he made his way indoors. "Tell me this is the start of winter," he said exasperatedly.

"I'm hoping it's the end and we get spring soon." Felicity suggests, trying to be positive as she follows Theodore inside. Like him she was wearing her uniform jacket. However, underneath she had her black hoodie for a change, black skirt and black leggings. Lots of black. Her boots were the odd clothes out, being brown. Theodore might have gotten the (correct) impression that she didn't have much in the way of a wardrobe.

Her hood is slid down as she looks around the diner. "This is quite nice. I hope they don't require a reservation."

He looked around at the empty tables. "I am guessing not. Let's take a seat?"

He laughed as he looked at her boots, "You have to be the only person on the force without black combat boots. What are those riding boots?"

"They're combat boots. I got them as part of my kit in the League. I wore out another pair, but these ones are holding together well." She sat down while giving him a look. "They're really comfy." She stressed.

"Free Worlders give troops nice boots. That's nice of them. Lyrans just mass produce the hell out of them," he chuckles, "Clunky, solid, and you can get them in any colour so long as it is black."

"It helped that I was an Officer at the time." Felicity points out. "We got slightly better stuff than the NCOs, who got better stuff than the enlisted."

The interior of the diner was a cozy, if dated, aesthetic, with red barstools and booths, smooth laminate tabletops, a jukebox near the door, and a couple arcade machines on the far wall. The room wasn't heavily populated, with a half dozen patrons dining inside.

A young man with swept back hair and a smile came over, greeting the duo. "First guests from the ship, I wasn't sure if off-worlders were allergic to local food. Come on in and get comfy! You want something cozy or do you want more room?"

He glanced over to see the arcade machines curious what was here. "Cozy seems good," he smiles, "So long as the food doesn't start frozen I am down."

He paused, "Unless it is ice cream. Now I really hope there is ice cream."

"Made fresh, don't worry."

The youth showed them to a small booth in the corner with only a single bench.

It would be cozy, for sure.

He dropped off two menus, each detailing a variety of food inspired by northern hemisphere comfort food from old earth, food largely made of potatoes, cheese, meat, onions, and various sauces and gravies.

This was all exciting! Felicity followed Theodore and the waiter, who she was glad hadn't said anything about her appearance, over to the booth. It was indeed snug. She slid in first, all smiles at the talk of fresh ice cream.

"Thank you~"

The cheerful cat girl looked over the menu and nearly immediately she purred gently. "This is just what I need... they even do stew and roasts!" She bounced in the spot in excitement. "It was a good idea to protect the town." How her opinion had changed!
