Event: Devil's Canyon (Day 5, EM)

[Felicity]

"I will ward them off the hill. Watch out for that Spider. Where are you headed Major?"

Felicity sounded annoyed over the comms. She was. She had missed a legless Phoenix Hawk at ideal range. Reluctantly, she jumped back. She had to push her jump jets to make the distance, but she just did, the Phoenix's legs scraping the hill top before she could land just past it.

"Trying again."

She fired her PPC and SRMs once more at the Phoenix Hawk.

[Comstar]

"Pulling back. We're too beat up to fight toe to toe any longer."

Yuri pivoted his mech, firing the chest mounted laser at the Spider, spearing it in the leg (Hit RL, 5 damage). The Spider fired back, scraping some of the chest armor off the Grand Dragon, and ducked under twin azure beams from Marik. (Hit CT, 5 damage).

The Phoenix Hawk attempted to track Felicity, but missed, as did the Dragon and Blackjack, though again a single shell impacted, this time on the arm, (Hit RA, 2 damage). In return, Felicity managed to strike it in the leg with her PPC, melting away the last armor, and overheating a heat-sink until it burst in a cloud of superheated coolant (Hit LL, 10 damage, heat sink crit)

The stationary Panther took a shot at the Wyvern, slamming into the leg, (hit LL, 10 damage) and finally cracking some armor off the mech. Maja, in turn, fired her last volley of LRMs, a pack of six SRMs, and her large laser at the Phoenix Hawk, finally landing some hits - the SRMs faling short, but the Large laser carved the right torso off the enemy mech (Hit RT, 8 damage, RT destroyed, 4 damage transfers to CT, and then 6 missiles from the final LRM volley rained down into the center of the savaged mech, shattering the gyro and engine housings, leaving the Phoenix Hawk bleeding heat and unstable (Hit CT, 1x6 damage, crit engine, crit gyro)

The maimed mech trembled and then fell, crunching more structural supports (Hit CT, 5 damage, pilot injured, pilot awake)

The Sholagar howled over head, strafing the highest of the defending mechs, in this case, Felicity, peppering the hill with SRM detonations, and twin emerald beams lanced out, one of them scoring a molten gash across Kiara's armor (Hit CT, 5 damage)

“Finally. Stupid Machina.”
Maja takes half a moment to celebrate crippling the Phoenix before the ping of multiple targeting locks reminds her that there are still a lot of enemy mechs coming. And then there was that spider...

Pulling violent on the controls, Maja takes Wurm back and to the Spider’s side. As she can finally open with with the Wyvern’s close range weapons.

[Felicity]

That Spider is getting cocky... "Just got strafed. Falling back. Armour is wearing thin."

Felicity didn't like it. They were at real risk. She was glad Snorri had been picked up at least.

"Covering your rear Major."

The Phoenix jumped up again to land in woods at the base of the hill. The heat was sweltering inside the cockpit now. Felicity launched a salvo of short range missiles at the elusive Spider, letting her heat sinks do their thing as she let the PPC cool.

The Shilone dipped, leveling out and swooping down into another aggressive dive, firing all its weapons at the back of the stationary panther, howling down the hillside in a storm of lasers and guns. The twin medium lasers fell low, emerald beams igniting trees and shrub, but the azure beam and twin autocannons chewed up the panther's remaining armor, leaving it threadbare. (Hit RL+LTR+LA, 8+2+2 damage) Tipping back and climbing, the craft offered a momentary profile, and the Black Dragon pilots, with incredible poise, hammered it with PPCs, Lasers, and Autocannon fire. Tracers criss-crossed the sky as the Blackjack missed, but the Drgon stabbed the engine with a green beam (hit aft, 5 damage), and the Vindicator caught the left wing with its PPC (Hit LWG, 10 damage), and most dangerously, the other panther pivoted, firing a PPC shot which smashed into the nose, sending current arcing through the armor, shattering metal plates and giving Alexei an agonizing shock as the current crackled through his control stick. (Hit NOS, 10 damage, Pilot Injured)

On the ground, the battle continued, as the other Panther, despite being pounded, managed a lucky shot at extreme range, clipping the Phoenix's arm and stripping away the last vestigates of armor in a crackling blast (Hit LA, 10 damage). The Spider, brazen as it was, fired twin emerald beams at Yuri's Grand Dragon, perhaps seeking the kill at any cost. One of the beams stitched over the foot, sloughing off the last armor and fusing the ankle joint (Hit RL, 5 damage, Crit foot). In retaliation, the Fortunate Ones savaged the Spider with a wall of firepower. A maelstrom of lasers and missiles carved into, but it was Yuri's rear mounted laser, pivoting and firing, which caught it in the chest, melting the engine assembly into a solid mass and sending the tiny mech tumbling to the ground, burnt and blasted beyond recognition. (Spider Destroyed)

Unfortunately for Yuri, that last shot hitting his foot spoiled his balance, and his focus on the shot threw off his attempts to compensate, and again the Grand Dragon fell (Hit LT+RT, 5+1 damage) with a mighty crash, crumpling armor plating and jarring Yuri, but he had sufficient experience and rode it out without injury.

Despite the impacts, Alexei gritted his teeth and kept the Shilone steady in the climb, regaining altitude and control. (Piloting roll passed)

Dragging his mech to its feet again, swearing profusely, Yuri pushed it into a run once again, trying to get around the next hill. "Keep the pace - we're bleeding them, but we can't stand and fight. If we make it to Calico, we can regroup. All units, continue orderly retreat!"

Well, that was one way to deal with a pursuing light mech. With a grin at the retreating Yuri, Maja follows suit, taking up a new position on the hill and sending a long line of energy at a distant target, more to remind their pursuers to keep their heads down than for anything else.

"Watch the ridgeline to the North Abs, Major."

Felicity was worried as she took another hit, the Grand Dragon fell and their air support was shot. She swore repeatedly after flipping her receiver off.

Gunning it once more as she had most of the battle, Felicity jumped to where she could pop off another shot and then retreat. She made sure to angle her right side toward the enemy. It was about the only place she still had any armour. Licking her lips, she tried for a shot at the distant Panther, hoping to return it's fiery death with more of the same.

Snorri scowled from the Crab, watching his Hussar vanish as the call to retreat sounded. He knew that there were long odds on getting it back, but this...this was a stark reminder.

As the retreat continued, long range shots rang out once again.

Seeing his chance, Alexei dipped the fighter again, firing another volley into the Vindicator, spearing it with twin emerald beams and autocannon shells (Hit LL+LL+RA, 2+5+5 damage), and then fired the engines, swooping away over the heads of the retreating mechs, drawing another storm of fire as he did. The Dragon, impressively, landed hits with its autocannon and 8 of the 10 LRMs it fired after the figher, (Hit NOS+NOS+AFT, 5+5+3 damage), while the rest went wide.

In turn, the retreating mechs got a couple shots off, firing beams and PPCs at the enemy - Felicity landing a blow to the chest of the pursuing panther (Hit LT, 10 damage), and Marik twisting and firing at the second panther, a single azure beam lancing out and striking the left arm (Hit LA, 8 damage).

[Felicity]

Noting the Grand Dragon moving slower, Felicity decided to hop to the West to keep the enemy pinned. They needed just a little more time.

"One more jump and then I'm scooting. Please get clear Abs, Major. First Sergeant, suggest you jump to the heavy woods and join me in firing on the Vindicator." [0623]

Once she finished her rushed communication she jumped westwards, her PPC firing again soon after.
