EVENT: Build a Better Barn (Day 2, EA, Alchor Highlands)

Situation: The soldiers of the Fortunate Ones have been tasked with building a cattle barn. This is a task that is, admittedly, outside the skill-set of Yuri Creed, and so he is offering the job of designing the layout to whoever is qualified and convince the local family to accept their design.

Participants: Unlimited.

Rules:

Step 1: Where does the barn go? - The first step is examining the property and picking the best place for the barn. This can be either a Knowledge(Farming)/Intelligence roll, or a Science(Geology)/Perception roll at a TN of 20. Success grants 1 Barn point, with 1 point per raise.

Step 2: Should a Barn be shaped like that? - The second step is designing the building itself and accounting for the limitations of wood as a material. This can be either a Science(Architecture)/Intelligence roll, or a Craft(Woodworking/Carpentry)/Intelligence roll vs a TN of 20. Success grants 1 barn point, with 1 additional point per raise.

Step 3: My way is better, I promise. - The final step is convincing Mr. Jackson that the new design will be better, in order to allow you to work with mechs on the final project. This is a Negotiations/Awareness roll vs a TN of 20. Success grants 1 barn point, with 1 additional point per raise.

Results:

At the end, the character with the highest barn points will have their design chosen, gaining .2 fame, the appreciation of Yuri Creed, and the following effects.

Highest Barn points:

10+: This design is brilliant, cost-effective, and sturdy. Not only does this family love it, but their neighbors do too... a new revolution in barn building has begun. All construction rolls will gain a free raise and the hazards of the work are reduced to zero.
6-9: The design is brilliant and sturdy. The family loves it, and the improvements make the project easier, reducing the number of finishing steps by 1.
1-5: The design works. The family accepts it and work can begin once resources are obtained.
-X-0: The design is awful, and the locals choose their own ancestral method. The work will take one additional step at every stage, and the work hazard rolls are +5 to the TN.

Dr Reinhardt makes a large elaborate plan for a majestic multi-layer barn structure, but can not seem to sell it to the local farmers as being at all reasonable.

Colette surprised the farmers with her knowledge of how to store grains and fruits. She even made a very nice model of the concept but well little Colette couldn't sell the man her model because it was far too colorful for his liking... specially the glittery paint coat she proposed.

While Marik follows the conversation between the scientists and the farmers as best he can, his presence is ultimately to make sure the conversation is safe.

He offers what advice he can, but as the conversation moves on it becomes clear he's out of his depth.

Jan scribbled something as an afterthought, then slammed the piece of paper onto the table of the High Committee of Rural Architecture Construction, Quality and Audit Assessment or however they called themselves.

"There. It'll work, structurally and thermically. But don't take my world for it. Sure you cowboys know better." If anyone got offended, Jan couldn't care less.

She chose to make the barn way too far of anywhere useful, and no way she would convince the farmer's family to follow the plan, although she did know how to sketch one.

Though barn building was delayed first by weather, and then by impending battle, the efforts of Jan and Colette still garnered some attention.

(End result: Barn plans are functional but unimpressive, +.2fame for Colette and Jan)
