D1 LE - On The Fence About Things (Expecting)

A good distance from the hustle and bustle of the base camp the perimeter fence stood as a bulwark between the expedition and whoever or whatever called the planet home.

Of course. Even the most impressive fence was only as good as the guards who watched it and climbing up one of the posts from the inside hadn’t been overly hard for someone used to getting in and out of hard to reach places. Now rugged up against the cold Maja was perched quietly on the post as she stars out into the darkness and ponders the weight on her mind.

Patrolling was one of Thom's duties, it was something that tended to fall to foot soliders after all. Not that he was on duty or needed to attend to it at the moment. He did however feel the urge to keep an extra eye out on their first night on what may be a hostile world.

Spotting a small form on one of the posts The young man made his way over, wondering who might be silly enough to climb up so high. "You amek an easy target up there, ya know." He called from the ground.

“I am very small and it is very dark. If anyone looks at me I am small like mouse, nothing to see. Besides, you are not the fence police.”
She was pretty sure he wasn’t anyways

He jerked a thumb back towards the ship and the camp sprinting up around it. Including the lights. "You're a bit back lit. You are rather small though, so that does help your case."

"Not that it's any of my business though. Like you said."

The figure sighs and then nimbly swings down the fence, ending with a jump onto the grass at the bottom.

“This has been a day of mainly failings, I think. Not only am I not a leader of greatness but I cannot even sit upon a fence.”

"Sit on a fence too long and all you'll end up with is a sore ass." Thom replied sagely. "I do suppose high places are a good place for brooding though?" He added seeming uncertain himself.

"Can't really say much about leadership though. It's not my forte. I'd wager you shouldn't worry about being great at it though."

Maja absent-mindedly tugs on her ponytail

“Ah, you are a soldier?”
Looking him up and down
“You are certainly looking like one. I too used to not be worrying about leadership. But I have been told I have a lance to oversee and I do not know how.”

"Now if I had a dirty mind, I'd make an inappropriate comment there." The solider retorted. "But I'll just take your word on it instead."

Running a hand through his hair he nodded. "Yup, I'm a soldier, infantry likely why we haven't seen each other much." That was followed by a frown. "I'd say find someone to ask for advice then. Or some good books on the subject."

"If that doesn't work just do what you can. Worst that can happen is you suck at it. Which could have other consequences, but well that's part of being a soldier."

"Ach! Now I am knowing you are a soldier, you definitely speak like one. I grew up with people like you."
Maja waves a gloved finger at him as if in admonishment.

"But maybe what you say Mr Soldier is very true, I am trying to find people who know what I do not, but it is hard, I am not even sure how you say...how to ask the questions which are correct? I do not know what I do not know, I would not want to live with the thought that someone died because of that, it is a responsbility of great proportions."

"Hey I'm not the one who likes to sit in uncomfortable places." He said defensively, though a playful smirk danced across his lips for a moment.


"You don't have to call me Mr. soldier though, You can call me Thomas, or Thom. Maybe even Cesar if you're feeling spicy." He shook his head and reached into his pocket for a coin, which he sent dancing across the knuckles of his left hand as he though. "As to who to ask, Maybe that other lance leader? Or the boss. Just be frank with em. 'I don't know shit all about leader ship, can you show me the ropes?' Is the best advice I have. Not that you really need to be that frank about it."
