Rolls will vary based on what you want to do to collect data - just float *how* you want to collect information, what you are looking for, etc, and I can give rolls that are appropriate. So you don't have to just investigation, you might take an engineering approach and ask yourself if this is a natural way for this part to fail, based on the stresses and schematics, etc.

What are the salvage and acquisition rights for both companies? Are they well known?

E.g. 50/50 split on military salvage that is found. 20/80 split on non-military salvage. 80/20 split on battlefield salvage.

Not well known - the basic understanding is that any non-military finds are Echo Exploration property, but that Fortunate Sons will get a cut of the final value collected, but the exact percent isn't exactly known.

For military equipment, that is listed as 'pending determination of scientific value' but does list that anything cleared as 'non-necessary for research' could be given to the Fortunate Ones as part of the payment of their share.
