[D3, EM, mess] On the right track

[Dorgan Bruun]

Bruun nods, and then chuckles. "Yeah, those plastiflesh patches the major had are no joke." He flexes the shoulder that had been wounded and doesn't even slightly wince.

He takes a long drink of coffee.

"So what brings such a skilled medic to the Fortunate Ones? Besides us needing you, obviously."

[Karlotta Roth]

"Pay." She took several seconds to realize what she just said. "Ah. I'm saving for a scholarship. I know that I won't get even ten percent of it before I start, sure, but I want to be able to afford at least one or two years of housing. Not exactly planning to serve the military whilst I study full-time or to trade study for service and stay there until my forties."

[Dorgan Bruun]

Bruun smiles knowingly. "Hey, ain't nothing wrong with being here for the money. It sounded good to me too. I mean, better before the crash landing and the murderous warlord crew we battled yesterday, but good money is good money." He scratches his beard.

"I reckon next time I'm gonna ask for more up front."

[Karlotta Roth]

"I'm low-key surprised that defending the Echo was the most tranquil part of what we did so far." She noticed that she finished her bread, sadly. "I'll go get more" she takes more one slice, returning to the booth.

"Anyway, as we were talking, yeah. I'll be pretty damn mad if we don't get at least double what I usually receive on peacetimes. What about you?"

[Dorgan Bruun]

Bruun chuckles. "Oh, I ain't put a number on it yet," he says. "Reckon I'm just focused on keeping everyone alive long enough that we can have that conversation. Sounds like we've been finding some good places to look for salvage and lostech... If we can get out of here alive with some good stuff, I reckon the money will be about right."

[Karlotta Roth]

"I'm not focused on anything. Just answering when I'm called, and I'm called a lot. We only got two infantry and one person who knows about medicine. Salvaging has been good yesterday, yeah. Stumbled upon a good tank in the dark."
She takes a bite.
"And what brought you to the Calico?"

[Dorgan Bruun]

"I been a mechwarrior a long time. Creed knew people who knew how to find me. On Solaris, right before this. And money talks, although, like I say, I reckon I shoulda asked for more now that I know what we're dealing with here." He smiles at Karlotta in a way that suggests he actually doesn't mind this company too much, even with things more dangerous than advertised.

[Karlotta Roth]

"Solaris the fun Solaris? A respectable part of the galaxy, you have that. I moved out the Outer March first chance I got not to deal underequipped against some pirate warlord and looks like we went back full cycle again. Guess you can't escape fate." She said it without bitterness but in the tone of casual chat, smiling back.
