Event: Devil's Canyon (Day 5, EM)

The final volleys were being exchanged as the Fortunate Ones began to pull away, Felicty and Maja giving parting shots to the Vindicator to endure (Hit RL 8 damage, hit LL 10 damage), PPC and Large laser both catching a leg and flaying away armor.

Then the remaining mechs began to clear the field, the Sholagar making one last desperate pass as they did, firing all it had at Felicity in her Phoenix as it carried out an attack pass, fast and low.

Unfortunately for it, the shots fell short, and while most of the counterfire from Felicity and Maja missed, Yuri pivoted, firing a burst of 10 missiles which spiraled out, converging near the nose of the craft and detonating six small warheads against the armor, shattering parts of the fighter's sensors (Hit NOS, 1x6 damage, sensors critical hit). Forced away, the small fighter tried to climb, but failed, and entered a sudden violent dive.

A howling filled the air as the craft tore toward the ground at speeds above the limit of the airframe, and then it plowed directly into Kiara's back torso. There was a colossal impact, and then massive explosion of fire and metal as the mech and fighter both were destroyed in a violent collision that left parts of both strewn across a good sixty feet of ground, flaming chunks still smoking.

Felicity saw the proximity alert, seconds before impact, and reached for the eject as she realized what it meant. (Piloting/Dexterity roll, vs a TN of 40 to escape unharmed, otherwise damage will accrue based on degree of failure)

(Unusual circumstance triggers roll to allow escape from likely fatal incident)

The enemy, seeing the explosion over the hill and hearing the last scream of their pilot, paused, seemingly in awe of what had just happened - enough time for Maja to scoop up Felicity and escape with her fellow pilot... alive or dead.

Results: Fortunate Ones pyrrhic Victory

The $%£@!? If she had hesitated for even a second she'd probably be dead. Her hand had moved to the ejection pull with astonishing speed after she'd, by chance, glanced the proximity alert. She hadn't consciously even understood it in the moment. Who expected a plane to get shot out of the sky and crash into a mech from behind?

Maybe she was just plain lucky? If so, it was probably a bad idea to bring it up with her prized Kiara blown into literal fragments by the high speed collision. Thankfully, the ejection went off without a hitch and none of the shrapnel, such as bits of plane and flying mech parts, caught her vulnerable seat as she blasted into the air. She even managed a safe landing.

She barely had a scratch and nothing worse than a few bruises and an ache in her neck. Felicity had scrambled out of the seat and grabbed her emergency supplies, but she'd been in a daze the whole time, just running off training and adrenaline. It would only be in the pickup and hasty retreat back that she'd have time to think and start processing her loss.

Of course, it was surely all Yuri's fault!
