"I think it went just fine, besides that thrice-damned targeting system. Ugh. Then again, that Dragon shoulda had me a couple times, so maybe it's just meant to be junk." He shakes his head in disgust. "But hey, we were all standing at the end. And you stood up to some heavy fire. Good work." She gets an approving nod from the veteran.

“Yes, it is good to still be there when others are not.”
She grimaces for a moment before shrugging it away

“I hope it is the same when we are under the fire. What do you think of the rest of the pilots? I recognise some like those from my old company, but others are... different.”

Bruun immediately thinks of the tail, but that's hardly the only weirdness in this company.

"Yeah, there's... differences... in every company. For not knowing much of anything about each other, the sim went pretty well. That Snorri is both lucky and unlucky as hell..." Bruun shakes his head in some level of amazement.

"I agree with the major that no one looked great on their gunnery today. Maybe too many jitters on the first day together, not enough slowing down to shoot straight. You looked pretty cool under pressure though," he says reflectively, trying to remember what stood out about others.

A slight shrug.
“I have been shot at before, and I was no pilot then. Now I have Wurm and I shoot back. The glove is on the other hand.”
Which she always found very satisfying.

“I thought the way we... uh... came around the enemy was good, the lance was on all their sides. I hope when it comes to real combat they are as brave.”

Bruun smiles at the... Spunk? Feistiness? Whatever Maja was showing. Grit, I'll go with grit. That's a good mechwarrior compliment.

"Yeah, and you gotta have grit to make that work, hold the line while the numbers wrap around their flanks. It's fire discipline really, though." He looks thoughtful, recalling the flow of battle. Then he nods, satisfied that he's learning the right lesson from what happened.

"Yep, we concentrated fire on one target at a time -- for the most part -- to get one down and then the other. That's smart, even if putting initial fire into the Dragon wasn't great. It got the Shadow Hawk out of hiding so we could gang up on it," he says with a smirk. I was right, to make the wrong call, because it led to the right outcome. Woof. Glad someone else can make those calls starting tomorrow.

“I think the saying goes ‘skilled is good but lucky is better’. That Dragon was furious it with our grit we solved the problem.”
‘Grit’ she would remember that word

“I hope you do not all die when we fight, it is nice to be part of a team again. I am thinking you are old and still fighting, so you are likely to survive.”

Bruun nods along with her sentiment -- yeah, "it's better to be lucky than good" -- then laughs loudly when she calls him old. In the simulator room it probably echoes and sounds even louder.

"Yeah, I reckon in MechWarrior terms 36 is old. Been doing this 18 years -- probably about as long as you've been alive, " he says matter-of-factly. "I'll try to set y'all a good example about staying alive." He smiles, looking forward to sharing his wisdom.

"Ach, I am not quite so young!" she said, being technically correct "Although 18 years is a long time, I have been doing this for only some months now, it is all new. Herr Yuri offering me a place here has changed a lot for me. I shall do my best to prove myself an equal. And my Wurm she is beautiful, with her I can do much."

Bruun looks Maja up and down, which doesn't take that long, and grunts, "Uh huh. Emphasis on 'not quite' so young?"

"But that's alright. I started younger and did just fine. You stick with me and you'll be just fine too," Bruun said, sounding both cocky and protective.

Maja unconsciously leans back slightly, her hackles raised a little by something

"Maybe, maybe. But I should be moving towards other things Bruun. Thank you for the talk to me, I will look at you again soon?"

"Great. Of course," Bruun responds, not really noticing the raised hackles. He steps aside a little to make sure she can pass comfortably.
