Mata nods. "I was born there. Since daddy was valuable they did not treat me as bad as the others. But I am glad I here now. The mechwarriors here are like the noble warriors from the stories da... father used to tell me."

[Nora Crossette]

"Ah. Well, we aren't as famous as the Northwind Highlanders or the Eridani Light horse, but we are trying our best."

She smiled. "Maybe one day, we will be a company with such a legacy."

[Theodore Beker]

"I wanted to puke, but I knew there would be a beating. The his fellow warriors were right there watching me. I was expected to be respectful. Though at least he was mostly in one piece."

"They cared enough to watch. That's... half of something. I suppose with a longstanding pirate crew there are probably relatives within the ranks of the mechwarriors," made a little wiggle of his hand, "Good for morale until one bites it'd I suspect."

Mata cocks her head. "Who are they? My father never told me about mercenary units besides my mother's unit, but they got betrayed after their first mission, and he does not know if they still exist. He mostly told me about the Star League Defense Force and the heroes who served it."

James shook his head. "Not the pirates. Back home. The man was a hero among the unit. Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't trained by the pirates. Captured when I joined up with my first merc unit. Not quite the adventure I expected when I left home." James gives a laugh. After all, not much to do about it at this point.

Theo laughed, "That makes more sense! I was not expecting that from the pirates. I hadn't put too much thought into how they behaved towards each other but they do tend to cut and run on each other a fair bit."

James nods. "Their loyalty was about what you expect. It didn't exist. Occasionally, there would be friends who would stick together more than usual, but usually that meant they would screw them over for higher price than the others." James was clearly disdainful of their behavior.

"You mean you've never heard of them? They're regiments that can trace their history all the way back to Star League. They've fought in all four succession wars and come out the other side still fighting."

Nora sighed dreamily. "You know the Highlanders used to be SLDF royal guard... they're amazing."

Mata shakes her head. "My father always said he came from small planet in the Periphery. So, he probably does not know a lot about the Succession Wars. 'We were minding our own business.' But that is really cool about the Highlanders, but why did they not go with General Kerensky when he left? Can you tell me more about them?" Mata was always one eager to learn.

"Yeah... that seems right," he shook his head, "I am sure they make enough that it makes sense until someone pays some mercs to hunt them down."

James nods. "My favorite part of the pirate lifecycle." James gives a morbid laugh.
