Evening Maintenance (D3, LE, Hanger)

[Nora Crossette]

Nora frowned faintly. "Huh... I don't know. I guess they felt like they owed their loyalty to someone here, they might have thought the Star League would endure longer than it did."

She tapped her chin, adding, "I guess maybe some day we'll have to ask them."

[James Hall]

Mata nods. "Deal."

After a moment of thought. "But we should wait until we are as famous as they are. That way, we will be equals." Because it was gonna be that easy.

[Nora Crossette]

"Well, I think we might be a little bit old by then... but maybe if we can get halfway there, that'd be a good start."

Nora smiled. "Every job is easier with small, easy steps."

That was a bit of a joke, but Mata probably didn't hear it that way.

[James Hall]

And she did not. "Yeah. That is what the captain showed me today. He had me keep practicing taking off until I am ready to do other things." And then she realized that Nora might not know what she is talking about. "I am going to become an aerospace fighter pilot like my mother was. I will bean aerospace fighter for the Fortunate Ones in the future."

[Nora Crossette]

"Oh really? Not a mechwarrior? Well, then I guess I'll have to save up and buy you a nice plane."

She contemplated that in passing.

Surely it wouldn't really be necessary, and if it was... not for a little while longer.

[James Hall]

"I was going to be a mechwarrior but they didn't have any neurohelmets that could fit me. But the captain knew of an aerospace fighter helmet. I like it. My mom was an aerospace fighter. So I can be like her. My father tells me about her sometimes. I think I would like to be like her. My father told me about my genetic father, but he only knows that he was an colonel and mechwarrior. So, I do not know if I would like to be like him. I do not know him. He might be a good guy. He might be a bad guy. Besides, my father is my father. So, if I become like my father, I want to become like the father I know."

[Nora Crossette]

"You could become a tech - but nothing wrong with learning to fly - some day I'm sure you'll be good at it!"

Nora beamed. "Just... not right away. You're a little young for battle, I think."

[James Hall]

Mata nods. "I know. I gotta learn how to fly first. Then, I go learn how not to get blown up by the enemies. Then, I gotta learn how to blow up the enemies. So, I have some time."

[Nora Crossette]

"Very... succinct."

Nora offered tight smile. "Very important steps."
