The Battle starts almost immediately, the mechs having 'deployed' within engagement range. The two mechs standing sentry were easy targets, and peaceful little valley was immediately lit with the roar of missiles and the crack of lasers ionizing the air.
As Felicity in her phoenix settled down , she saw a PPC blast, like a tightly bound cylinder of lightning, flash by her cockpit, a shot from the Grand Dragon going wide, and then felt the pod shake and rumble as the corresponding volley of Long range missiles slammed into the center of her mech, flaying away armor in shards of molten metal. (CT hit, 5 damage) Only her sudden twist to fire had stopped the volley from slamming directly into the armor that shrouded the cockpit (1 Edge spent to re-roll head hit into CT hit, 1 CT damage.) Squeezing her triggers as she bracketed the Jenner, she saw it lance the two lasers from it's left arm at her, one of them vaporizing a trail of armor from her mech's shoulder. (LT hit, 5 damage) Her own PPC ripped past the Jenner, missing by scant yards, as did the first volley of SRMs, but the second pair slammed into the Jenner, one in the right leg, and the other in the torso, each knocking away shards of broken armor. (Hit CT+RL, 2 Damage each)
Immediately twisting his mech, after shooting at the Phoenix, Yuri stabbed both of his medium lasers at the Stinger that had landed in the nearby woods, a reflexive shot, one missing wide, but the other scraping down the left torso and melting away most of the armor in a gaping slash. (LT hit, 5 damage) The Stinger, piloted by Freja, returned fire with two medium lasers of her own, but, perhaps still adjusting to the simulator, both went wide, igniting trees in the distance.
The Jenner, reeling from the hits, pivoted toward the slim shape of the Commando cresting the hill, and opened fire with its remaining pair of medium lasers, and the shoulder mounted missile rack, sending 4 warheads out on trails of flame. One laser went wide, as did all the missile, impacting on the ground in sprays of mud and grass, but one laser connected with the commando's left leg, melting armor off the limb in streaming rivulets of steel. (LL hit, 5 damage)
In return, the Commando pivoted, Andrea getting a positive lock, and letting loose a full volley of 10 missiles, a barrage which howled down from the hillside to carpet the Jenner, and the ground around it, in explosions. As the dust cleared, the sensors reported 5 positive hits, scattered about the target. (Hit LT+RL+CT+RT+LA, 2 damage each)
The thorn, still barely visible behind the hill, tried to tag the Jenner with its own lasers and missiles, but the shots went wide, thrown off by the sensor distortion caused by the sudden volleys of missiles, lasers, and particle cannons. Marik would have to adjust to fighting in a larger team with so much chaos, it seemed.
Kicking their mechs into motion, the two hostiles seemed intent on denying the team their early kill, the Jenner dashing for cover while the Dragon kept a stable firing position, guns blazing.
