EVENT: Simulation Day: Bravo Team (Day T-1, Afternoon, Sims)

A great number of things happened at the same moment.

Andrea brought her commando to a dead stop, took aim, and let loose with everything it had. As she did, the Grand Dragon stablized itself, took aim, and let loose a roaring bolt of raw energy from it's particle projection cannon, which caught the diminuative mech square in the chest, ripping away steel framing and sending the reactor into an emergency shutdown. The simulator pod shook Andrea violently, heat blazing in, and then it went dark and still. One pilot was out, but not before she had loosed a volley of her own. It wasn't as powerful, but it tore away most of the remaining armor on the Jenner, and nearly removed the right weapon pod entirely. (SRM hit CT+RT+RA, 2 damage each)

The Jenner, at the same time, loosed all four lasers at the Stinger at point blank, and in a moment of surprising skill, landed all four hits. The Stinger was flayed of armor, losing all the remaining armor on the left torso, and then the torso itself, in a blaze of flame, sending the left arm, and the laser it held, tumbling to the earth(Hit RA+CT+LT+LT, 5 damage each, LT destroyed, 3 damage transfers to CT, armor destroyed). Staggering, against all odds, Freja kept the small mech balanced, and didn't topple (Pilot check to resist falling after 20 damage passed). The damage threw off her aim, however, and both her own shots went wide.

Marik turned his thorn back, weaving around the outer edge of the forest and opening fire with his own two lasers, twin beams of emerald energy lancing out at the Grand dragon, one of them scraping another armor panel from the large mech's leg. (LL hit, 5 damage)

Seeing her chance, Felicity jumped her mech forward again, landing directly behind the Grand Dragon, which squeezed off a shot from its rear mounted laser, but didn't connect. In turn, she fired off a salvo of four SRMs, two of which slapped home, removing a few more plates of armor. (Hit RL+LL, 2 damage each)

Then, lunging forward, she delivered a sharp kick to the back of the Dragon's left leg, tearing off an armor panel with a single savage blow (LL hit, 10 damage). At the same time, the Stinger, missing an arm, perhaps, but still in posession of two good legs, lashed out and struck the Jenner in it's Right Leg, the impact knocking loose the remaining shattered armor and bending the internal structure. (Hit RL, 4 damage, critical hit on hip) The Dragon took the hit in stride, remaining stable, but the Jenner, now suffering from a damaged joint, couldn't get it's balance back, and keeled over, smashing into the ground with a bone shaking impact that set Freja's pod shaking. (Failed Piloting roll to remain standing, Jenner falls on right side. RL damaged, 4 damage, critical hit on ankle, Piloting roll to avoid injury failed, pilot suffers 1 injury, piloting roll to remain conscious passed)

The Jenner wasn't out, but it was down.

Not for long, however, as the battered mech wobbled back onto it's feet, turning clumsily to face the Stinger, even as heat rolled off the mech in waves, making the air blurry with the sheer intensity of it. The dragon stomped out of the forest onto the road, turning to get a clear view of the battlefield and choose its next target.

« Merde! » Andrea pounded her fist on the controls and leaned back. She flicked the monitor to observe the end of the fight and played back the moments that lead to her destruction.

In a downed Commando!

[Felicity]

Felicity swore into her neurohelmet as Andrea's Commando was hit. She wondered why the other woman had stopped moving. For lights, movement was their only real defense. Her swearing grew louder as the light mech toppled over, a scorching wreck. She tried not to dwell on it as she forced herself to be calm and reassess the situation. They could still emerge victorious, but if this was a real fight it wouldn't have been worth the cost. She flicked her comms back on.

"Keep moving, keep moving! I'll stay still to draw fire, but you both need to move. Flank the Dragon."

She licked her lips as she carefully levelled her PPC toward the rising Jenner. It wasn't just not going anywhere; it had its back facing her. As soon as the energy weapon was charged she immediately fired.

(Staying right where I am. No movement. Torso twist North and fire PPCs followed by SRMs right at that juicy Jenner backside.)

(Ghosting as close to instructions as I can, within reason)

Desperate to make the most of the situation, Freja pushed her mech into a dash, slipping away from the Jenner's line of fire and charging around behind the Dragon. Her speed was so great, however, that she skidded as she arrived, throwing off her aim just enough to miss. Marik had the same idea, but unfortunately as he ducked around the building, his own line of path was blocked by the sprinting Stinger, leaving him unable to fire. Taking cover among the trees, he waited for a clean shot.

The Jenner, trembling and struggling to stand, pivoted the lasers on each arm once again, firing four emerald beams back into the trees at Felicity, and this time one slammed into the leg armor of her mech, tearing away blobs of molten alloy. (Hit RL, 5 damage) The dragon, perhaps realizing the danger the Jenner was in, also pivoted, firing two emerald beams into the trees, one of them raking across the right Arm of Felicity's mech (hit RA, 5 damage). At the end of the salvo, the dragon was still steaming, but not nearly as bad as before, but the Jenner was starting to glow a little.

The threat to the Jenner was realized, however, as Felicity leveled her Particle Projection Cannon at the faltering mech and fired. The arcing lightning speared right arm pod that Andrea had already battered, tearing it into shrapnel and drilling away most of the remaining structure in the right torso, blowing out two jump jets in a spray of brass shards(Hit RA, 10 damage, 9 transferred to RT, Critical Hit 2x Jump Jet). The four missiles launched after spiraled in, one falling short, but the other three smacking into the Jenner once again, one exploding in the back of the knee, and two tearing away the last fragments of armor on the left torso. (Hit LTR(rear)+LTR+LL, 2 damage each)

The blow to the knee was more than the leg could take, and the Jenner staggered, wobbled, and then fell again, this time smashing on it's left side as it skidded off a tree on the way down. The leg didn't survive the fall, popping out at the hip. (Piloting check to stand after ankle destroyed failed, Fall on left side. LL hit, 4 damage LL destroyed, 2 damage transers to LT, Piloting roll to avoid injury failed. Pilot suffers injury. Pilot roll to remain conscious passed)

Though her shot went wide, Freja was able to again dig in her mech's stance and make a sharp shin cracking kick into the back of the Dragon's right ankle, shattering more armor plates with the blow. (hit RL, 4 damage) The Dragon swayed, but didn't fall as the pilot kept it steady. (Piloting roll to stay standing passed)

The Jenner tried to stand, but was utterly incapable of the task, the flailing of the one leg only pushing the main body around, pathetically. It might be able to get a clean shot with the missile rack still...

The Grand Dragon stepped forward and turned, tracking the remaining mechs with its guns, seemingly unconcerned.

[Felicity]

A momentary feeling of satisfaction passed over her as the particle cannon found its mark. Then so too did most of the short range missiles. Si. she needed more like this.

"I've still got armor. Sticking on the Dragon. Status?"

She have seen the Stinger looking worse for wear, but she didn't know the details. For now she moved her mech out of the trees so she could jump up and sail on simulated bursts of her jump jets to land behind the Dragon again. Take this big boy.

(Jumping to 1404, facing 1305. Torso twist toward the Dragon to fire both SRM2s at the Dragon and then punching it with both arms. Kikiriki!)

"Armor down, finishing Jenner" She ran back to get into an advantageous position to try and finish the enemy mech.

(run to 1302 facing whatever way gives me the most remaining armor while still being able to punch+kick the jenner)

[Comstar]

The melee was degenerating quickly, the Jenner flailing pathetically for purchases and utterly failing to aim it's weapons at anything. It was clearly down for the count, but Freja wasn't going to leave it up to chance, sprinting behind it and drilling another shot from her medium laser into it, flaying off the remaining armor on the rear of the central torso and melting support struts into glowing slag. (Hit CTR, 5 damage, armor destroyed) Then, just for good measure, she stomped it, crushing the weakened supports further and leaving a gaping hole, sparking and hissing with leaking coolant. (hit kick, CTR, 4 damage)

The Grand Dragon pivoted carefully, taking aim at the Thorn that was darting through trees to its left, and firing the rear laser again, but both shots went wide. In turn, Felicity, bounding into the air once again, landed cleanly behind the Dragon and let loose with the four SRM tubes in the mech's chest. Two flew past to hit the small ofice building before them, but the other two smacked into the Dragon with satisfying thuds. (hit CTR+CTR, 2 damage each) Squaring up, she then smashed the left fist, followed by the armored shroud of the her right arm's PPC, into the back of the Dragon. (hit RTR+RTR, 5 damage and 2 damage)

The Thorn, trying to keep out of the Dragon's primary arc of fire juked right, tracking and firing with all it's weapons. Still uncomfortable with the unusual mech, Marik didn't land the LRMs, but one of the twin lasers caught the Dragon in the leg, sending the last fragments of armor falling away and partially fusing the hip joint, causing the Dragon to wobble, but not fall. (hit LL, 5 damage, armor destroyed, upper leg critical, Piloting roll to stay standing passed)

Totally doomed, the Jenner punched out, the cockpit bursting in a spray of transparent aluminum shards as the simulated pilot flew away in their ejection seat, and then disappeared as the simulator stopped tracking their existence.

Turning slowly, the Dragon backed up so that it could put it's vulnerable rear against the office building, forcing the team to come at it directly.

[Felicity]

"Good, one left. Pulling back to a better range."

With a deep breath Felicity took another leap. This time she jumped over the hill and into wooded cover. She made sure to spin the mech to the right facing so she could draw a bead on the Dragon soon after. The heavy mech was smart to shield it's back. However, it couldn't shield the rest of itself.

"Jenner out," she relayed through the comms, "flanking dragon."

She redirected the Stinger to try and flank the enemy mech, seeing it take some solid hits and hoping that perhaps now they could all focus on it they'd manage to take it down together.

(turn south, run to 1406, turn to face the dragon, fire lasers+kick)

[Marik Wa Mo Ishtal]

The mission was almost done - but for his liking, there had been too many losses. The best way to end it, he decided, was up close and personal.
