Then sometimes you find places like this," Blondie partially matches his wave toward the unspoiled natural environment of this world, "where humans haven't screwed things up yet, and however exciting it is, it sure is nice to see." Maja can't see the sad smile on Bruun's face, but she can probably guess it's there from his tone and words.

There's a pause for a few moments
"You have the tone like a man who has seen many screwed things?"

Maja notes a twisted metal spire jutting out of a nearby hill, the remnant of some kind of outpost in the planet's distant past
"Are you worried we will be the ones to screw up this time?"

There's a pause for a few moments

"Yeah, Stitches, I reckon I have." He doesn't elaborate, and Blondie's next couple of steps look a lot more jerky and stained than before.

"Are you worried we will be the ones to screw up this time?"

There's a snort over the comm line, but it isn't accompanied by a burst of laughter as is usual for Bruun.

"My priorities," Bruun begins, seeming to ignore the question Maja actually asked, "are keeping people alive and sane, and fulfilling the contract. Best we can do is get people through whatever this is, and then everyone can decide for themselves what our how we screwed up."

"Spoken like a true first sergeant."
If Maja notices any mech jerkiness she doesn't comment on it. Although she does try to change the subject.

"So....how did you come about to be a Fortunate Son?"

"Spoken like a true first sergeant."

"Bah," Bruun grumbles. "Just applying my personal rule of getting out alive to the whole team. Seems like mostly good people. A lot of young people who deserve to live longer than this expedition." Bruun sighs.

"Creed knew people who could find me on Solaris. I think he wanted some experience to back up the youthful energy. And I fell for the hope that this would be a quiet little adventure. Should have asked for more money," he scoffed. "It's been too damn exciting already."

"Bah," Bruun grumbles. "Just applying my personal rule of getting out alive to the whole team. Seems like mostly good people. A lot of young people who deserve to live longer than this expedition." Bruun sighs.

"I still can't believe I'm in charge of anything. People with titles have shorter life spans..." It's hard to hear whether his thought cuts off sharply or it just trails off, but it's clear Bruun hit an awkward spot in his train of thought.

There's a somewhat pained pause on Maja's end as well.
"That is...sometimes the way of things. But Herr Yuri is tough, a pilot's pilot. He is sure to be fine. And we, well, first sergeant is not the officer, so it does not count for the title."

Some would say humanity had already 'screwed up' this world, considering what had happened to it centuries ago, but like many things, it had found a way to carry on.
