D3-EA - Crash of the Titans

[Jan Novak]

Jan was on arrival how he had been during the journey - silent. He lit a cigarette and watched the dropship.

[Felicity]

Felicity made radio contact with the APC.

"I will watch the area while you work. Let me know if you need a hand." Her Phoenix could carry stuff, or push bits around.

[Comstar]

The dropship awaited, a treasure? trove, a mystery box! A large metal oblong that had been sitting on a beach and slowly rotting away.

It could be any or all of these things, they'd just have to open it and find out!

The first step would be getting one of the bay doors open, not an easy task without power.

They could either blow it open with demolitions, pull it open with a mech, or try and cut the hinges and get out of the way before it fell.

[Dr. Reinhardt]

"Felicity, you want to try knocking for us?" He calls out over the radio.

[Felicity]

"Affirmative. Please stand back."

Felicity nudged her Phoenix forward until she was only a few meters away from the bay doors. Lifting her Kiara's left hand, extending the claw fingers, she tried to find some purchase so she could pull the bay doors open or loose. She was trying to be careful with it.

The door groaned, the hydraulics resisting, but ultimately they proved weaker than Kiara's grip - age and decay rendering them vulnerable, and they exploded in a violent spray of fluid and metal, staining the sand, and the massive door fell, landing with a concussive thumpf, the wet sand compacting under the impact.

Now the sunlight shone in, and they could see how badly the hangar was damaged - it was a mess, but surprisingly, the mech cubicles had kept their contents in shockingly good condition.

Inside there were mechs, though they'd have to think back on school books to identify them. One tall mech, barrel chested and painted in black,yellow and red, hung in it's harnass facing the door. Beyond it, harder to see but still there, a squat, hunched mech with a rounded upper torso, almost like a shell, hung in it's harness. Beyond that, they could see a smaller, thin bodied mech with large arm mounted weapons, and a delta-bodied mech with double-jointed legs. They'd all need a bit of spit and polish, but were in remarkably pristine shape.

How the locals had left them alone this long was unclear - perhaps a lack of equipment to open the doors?

Felicity had attended lectures that included talks on Star League era mechs. She'd even seen some specifications and reports. However, she'd seen precious few pictures and those she had seen were for more widely known mechs. Like the Highlander. She had no idea what she was looking at.

"It's open! This is an amazing find!"

She carefully stepped back to make way for the others to slip in. Her mech would probably be needed to haul stuff out.

"Please communicate back that we've found these, okay? My signal strength won't be as good as yours." Felicity adds over the loud speaker.

They were old, but they still taught about these mechs in some parts of space. James thought he could identify some of them.

James immediately notes the first, and after some thought, the third, while Reinhardt notes all four.
