Where Bruun had looked a bit deflated, hearing that his rules might qualify as wisdom was quite a lift.

"Well, I reckon they could be wise. Mostly they're about keeping me alive. And, uh, I guess, by extension, keeping other folks alive too." He scratches at his beard. "I don't reckon everyone needs the same rules, but at least a few is probably wise. Like no jumping on tanks." He grins at her.

With exaggerated reverence “No jumping on tanks.”

After all, Maja thought to herself. She would need a heavier mech for that.

Bruun appreciates the affirmation of such an important rule, and happily fills the following quiet with the reassuring sound of his own voice.

"The other important rules are mostly about not drinking too much or doing other stuff that messes with your head, not getting too attached to other people..." He makes a face as he quietly says to himself, "Huh. Guess I gotta revise that one for this trip..."

"Well, getting attached to people as a mercenary, when people die or move on pretty often, can end up real depressing. Leads people to drinking too much, or other risky things." The veteran sighs heavily.

"But I reckon I'm already getting attached to this company. Some more than others, of course." He chuckles and starts to smile at Maja, then suddenly looks away and scratches his beard.

“Ohhhhh! I know the sort like you Bruun. You say the sensible things, that people die or leave and if you befriend them then it will hurt. But you have the heart which reaches out and wants to have friends anyways. It is always thus, the ones who are hurt most are the ones who still are reaching out.”

Bruun smiles and shakes his head. "Yeah, Stitches, I reckon that's about right." With a small look to the sky, he absent-mindedly asks, "And what about you? You getting attached around here?"

She rubs her cheek then winces a little and swaps to the other cheek
“Maybe? I have already gone through the love and the loss before. But the people are mostly nice and the work is mostly good. So long as I am paid at the end I have no reason to not be attached.”

There's a faint hiss from Bruun as she winces. Gah, come on man. She's fine.

"Well, I won't pry about your before stuff. Shouldn't get m myself more attached," he jokes awkwardly.

"It is no unusual story in this world. Bad things happen, people keep going. But I will leave it as the big mystery to spare you the attachment."

"Big mystery. Maybe for a big reveal in the future," he jokes. "For now, probably a time to rest. Especially for those who did crazy heroics today." He looks at her both stern and kind.

"Don't worry about Wurm. These techs are good. They'll take good care of her, Blondie and the others."
