George Bates was poking a doll with a battery, causing it to flop about awkwardly.

It was a strange mix of cute and sad.

It was a pretty good looking doll of a Marauder though.

A plush toy! It was something always wanted. But the pirates' children kept them all. Her dad could make little action figure type stuff, but he couldn't sew. And dad said she couldn't take any left over when the mercenaries killed the pirates. She had to fight them and put one of her toys on line if she lost. But the pirates' kids were already taken away, so she couldn't beat them up. And a few, she really wanted to beat them up now that the pirates couldn't interfere when she started winning. Mata shook her head. Eye on the prize.

"Oh. What is that you have? It is very curious." She tried to act disinterested. It was something she saw her dad do when he bought things. Really, that was a plush toy. It must be super expensive.

[Felicity]

Felicity just stared at the merchant.

After a while she commented darkly. "You've got to be joking."

Whipping out her recorder, she took some pictures of the items so she could show Command later.

"Eehm, James, could you try haggling for some of these? I need a more realistic price if I'm going to persuade the Major to get any."

[Comstar]

"Eh? Hi there young lady!"

George beamed that yellow toothed grin from behind his scraggly beard. "You feel familiar. You one of those off-world folks?"

He held up the toy. "I asked one of the ladies for some cloth and such, I figured I'd try making mech dolls. I didn't get it quite right, don't think, but I'm havin a good time tryin. Got plenty more myomer strands to stick inside till I figure it out!"

Felicity just stared at the merchant.

After a while she commented darkly. "You've got to be joking."

Whipping out her recorder, she took some pictures of the items so she could show Command later.

"Eehm, James, could you try haggling for some of these? I need a more realistic price if I'm going to persuade the Major to get any."

"I could try, though I am not sure how well, I will do." He steps over to the man.

He lists the problems. "These prices are unreasonable for such unstable products. Plus, there is the issue of the Black Dragons. If they come here, they will be leaving with them, but they won't be paying for them. They are not the type of people interested in anything more than total submission. Hell, they exist because they refuse to follow their own leader's wishes to let go of Rasalhague."

The merchant didn't stop smiling, exactly, but his expression slipped, ever so slightly. A customer who knew the product.

How horrifying.

The price came down sharply, until it was actually somewhat acceptable. 35000 Pojes for the Snub, 70k for Pulse, and 30k for the Streak SRM 2.

"For this doll? I hadn't really thought about it. I guess... 5 Pojes. That'll feed a man for a day, and that's how long it took me to make it!"

With a wide smile he added, "I didn't think anyone would want it, so I was going to try again, but I guess if you like it, I can't say no to a young lassie."

James looks to Felicity for her decision. He also looks over and makes sure Mata is doing alright.

"I'll take it!" Mata immediately counts out 5 pojes and gives it to the man. She then frowns. She didn't haggle. Damnit. "If anyone asks, you wanted 100 pojes, but I talked you down to 5." She nods solemnly. She at least wanted to look like she did a good job haggling.

Colette shook her head at Mata. "It doesn't work that way." She looked at the man "Alo Monsieur Bates seem my petite friend is your first costumer." She giggled. "How are you today?"

[Felicity]

"That's a bit better." She turned back to James and smiled. "Thank you. I'll report this back to the Major and see what he says. Eehm, as well as what you said about each bit."

The dubious merchant got a slow nod and a 'thank you' before Felicity tiptoed to look for Mata. "What were you looking for James? I can help."

[Comstar]

"Ah, well, I can say you talked me down from 10. I can't have people thinking I"m a lightweight? Eh?" He broke into a guffawing laugh, and then passed over the plush Marauder. It was very squishy.

Winking at Colette, he added, "I'm doing grand, I sold a toy and saw you kind folks. She your girl?"
