Event: Dawn of the Dragon (Day 5, EM)

For a moment she thought about jumping behind the Jenner and laying into it, but she would be surrounded. She grits her teeth and opens her comms. "Keep them distracted. Abs, focus fire on the damaged Jenner. Re-joining lance, cover me."

Felicity then jumps back, her targeting systems following the damaged Jenner. There was a rush of extra excitement as she hit the peak of the jump. She felt weightless as she descended. Carefully, she ignited the thrusters once more at the end to slow her descent enough not to damage Kiara's legs. With stable footing she could shoot once more. Her new spot also offered some protection thanks to the building she was partially behind.

The Cicada held the line as the enemies advanced. Training her cannon on the approaching Dragon, Gillian depressed the firing stud...

The Dragons surged forward, guns blazing. The zealousness of the volley disguised the inferior accuracy over it. Still, the targeted Dragon threw all it had at Chow, the Autocannon smashing the Cicada's leg armor. (hit RL, 5 damage) The First Jenner, maimed though it was, managed to track a hit onto the Phoenix with its medium laser(Hit LA, 5 damage) The Jagermech lined it's guns onto the Ostsol, managed a pair of hits. (Hit CT, 6 damage) The twin panthers lined up shots, and both scored, PPCs scoring into the Ostsol and the Firefly (Glancing Hit Ostsol LA, 5 damage, hit Firefly LT, 10 damage)

In return, the Fortunate Ones gave as good as they got, digging in their heels and firing a full fusillade. Yuri targeted the second Genner, again scoring missile hits, and adding in an emerald beam (Hit RL, 8 damage, critical hit upper leg, critical hit hip). The wyvern lanced out, but couldn't score any blows, but the Phoenix did manage to slip a single missile into the chest of the wounded Jenner, the other shots going wide. (Hit CT, 2 damage) The other Jenner was treated to an azure blue spear of light from the Crab, Marik slicing away the last of the armor on the Left weapon pod. (Hit LA, 8 damage) The Hussar attempted a shot, but didn't quite land a hit on the Jenner as it staggered into cover behind the intervening building.

In turn, the Firefly let rip with all it had, and Bruun was able to direct a medium laser into the torso of the hostile Dragon, peeling away armor (Hit CT, 5 damage). Moments later, the Falcon, piloted by the rookie, got a bit of beginner's luck, Ryougi pivoting to fire the Snub nosed PPC, a wide blast of enegery cracking into the right torso of the stubby battlemech - crackling across the surface... and then the dragon blossomed into flame, the weakened right armor allowing energy in... and then the entire autocannon magazine tearing the mech into shrapnel from within. (Hit RT, 10 damage, ammo explosion, Dragon Destroyed) The pilot's auto-eject kicked in, and a parachute blossomed in the sky, the ejected pilot slowly falling to earth.

The wounded Jenner with it's leg damaged tottered, losing its balance and then falling, crushing the mangled LA that Marik had hit. (Piloting roll fail - hit LA 4 damage, LA destroyed, 2 LT damage, Pilot injured, Pilot remains conscious)

The Shilone, cranking hard, slipped into a lagging turn, dipping wide enough to slide behind the Sholagar. As it did, the nose lit, Azure and Emerald beams punching out, along with twin streams of autocannon shells. The cannon shells traced the Sholagars left wing, cracking the armor, while the emerald laser flashed across the cockpit, searing armor and stunning the pilot. (Hit LWG+NOS, 4+5 damage, Crit hit pilot, pilot injured, pilot remains conscious) The small craft, notoriously difficult to control in atmosphere, shuddered, and then fell into a spin as the shocked pilot lost control. (Piloting failed, 1 elevation lost)

As if realizing the danger, the Dragons began to pull back, consolidating their formation a little, gaining steady firing positions and presenting a more unified threat.

Yuri, spotting it, called comms, "They're turning toward you, Vanguard Lance. Begin withdrawal! Fire Support Lance - focus on those Jenners and begin pulling back!"

The wounded Jenner struggled to its feet, now both mechs showing serious damage, but still in the fight.

Another beep on sensors as a second Sholagar howled overhead, swinging into a tailing position chasing the Shilone, who had begun a looping strafing pass, taking a moment to try and put a little bit of pressure on the Dragon formation.

[Felicity]

Felicity was treated to the sight of the Dragon across the valley going up in a big explosion. Nice. She was instantly impressed by the trainee. However, she had to focus. She cursed before opening comms as her primary target ran into hiding. "Lost visual. Switching target to the other Jenner and falling back. Thanks for the support DJ, Abs."

Moving again, this time she hopped into the nearby treeline. She could now see the other Jenner. Her PPC was there to say hello.

Bruun's excited cheer echoes over the comms, almost drowning out Creed's transmission.

"Way to go, Chick. I guess we'll let you stick around. Alright Vanguard, you heard the big man, let's start getting out of here. Chow, you and Andrea cover each other. Chick'll stick with me. We'll see you back where the road goes over the hill. Remember, we're leading one to nothing, so let's just keep that score where it is."

The Cicada backed away slowly, moving behind a building and taking a pot shot at the attackers as they began a fighting retreat.

Andrea sneered as the Dragon died, "Damn...I wanted that kill." She sighed and stepped back into the woods. "Well, come on then...I still would like a kill!" She drew a bead on Jagermech and fired.

As the two lines began to separate, the accuracy of the gunnery decreased, and pilots cursed as they lost target locks. Andrea saw her targeting solution vanish as she backed out of the forest, the trees blocking her view completely. Long range PPC and autocannon fire whipped about the battlefield, most of it finding trees and earth to destroy, but a handful of autocannon shots whipped around the cicada from the hailstorm of shells the Jagermech was firing, glancing off the cockpit armor (Edge prevents head hit, CT+RT hit, 7+2 damage) and scattered across the mech torso.

Yuri scored a hit in the arm of the Phoenix Hawk with an emerald beam, (Hit LA, 5 damage), and then Alexei brought the Shilone in low, guns blazing and tearing into the mech as it passed, autocannons raking across the left side, and then a trio of lasers, one azure and two emerald, kniifed across the mech. (Hit CT+LA+LL+RL+LA, 8+2+2+5+5 damage) Bleeding altitude, the Shilone rose into a wide arc, Sholagar hot on its tail, missiles and lasers lancing out, seeking their target, but only succeeding in forcing Alexei to drop altitude, avoiding the shots.

The Sholagar attempted to predict his movements, but Alexei broke right, cutting across the enemy fighter's turn, sweeping past its guns before it could react, peeling away from the battlefield, streams of condensation running from the wingtips as the coolant systems desperately attempted to cope with the heat of the salvo.

The Black Dragons pushed forward again, south, and while the north was starting to rally into formation, the more damaged Jenner got cocky, leaping forward toward the retreating Fortunate Ones.
