Event: They Fought the Law (Day 5, EM)

[Comstar]

As the Turhan lurched into motion, the company converged on the Sentinel, which attempted to track the vehicle, firing it's PPC at it as it left. The energy blast slammed into the APC, doubtless terrifying the civilians and soldiers within, following it with a pair of SRMs(hit RR+RR+TU, 10+2+2 damage), and a small laser at the sheriff. (hit LT, 3 damage). In return, the Sheriff fired a massive shell that went low, detonating on the ground a few yards from Bruun's Firefly as he ran in to attack, but at least the Sheriff's small laser spat a ruby beam that carved into the Sentinel, (hit LA, 3 damage).

The myriad mechs of the Vanguard lance circled in, Andrea firing twin beams of azure and emerald, with a pair of hits from the azure beams, and one emerald (Hit RL+LL+LL, 8+5+8 damage). Immediately after, the Cicada came in close, the short range stopping the PPC scoring any hits, but the Machine guns raked the arm (Hit RA, 2 damage), and then the Turhan turret pivoted, firing back at the Sentinel with twin azure beams, one of them spearing the canopy (Hit HD, 8 damage, pilot injured, pilot awake). The Falcon jumped in, but Ryougi missed all her shots, while Bruun, riding the Firefly in close, fired 4 ruby lasers, and 2 emerald, the combined light show crisscrossing the Sentinel and boiled away armor plating and structure, cleanly severing the leg at the joint, and sending the mech tumbling over. (Hit LL(CRIT)+LA+RT, 3+3+5 damage, Hip destroyed, Leg blown off) (Mech auto-falls, 4 damage LT, Pilot Injured, Pilot Awake)

In the distance, the Battlemaster pivoted, using the rear lasers to smash armor plating on the Packrat with twin beams (Hit RR+RR, 5 damage each). The Jenner also shot a pair of beams, one hitting the vehicle and igniting wheels. (Hit FR, 5 damage, major motive system crit) In return, the small vehicle spat a pair of SRMs, one of which smashed into the Jenner (Hit CT, 2 damage) The Wolverine pivoted, and slammed an autocannon round into the Galleon flank (Hit LS, 5 damage) In return the tank carved more armor off the leg of the mech (Hit LL, 5 damage).

The smashed Sentinel rolled toward the Ostsol, and Andrea firmly stomped down, crunching the torso of the fallen mech. (hit RT, 12 damage)

The Wolverine jumped closer, while the Battle master re-oriented, drawing a bead toward the scuffle around the sentinel. The wounded Jenner lit up jump jets, Leaping onto the roof of the market, which sagged, but didn't collapse.

Gillian's Cicada continued to try and kick the enemy Sentinel while it was down.

With a Battlemaster behind her, Andrea growls...the Sentinel should have been her's, but circumstances prevented the kill. Turning north she moves to bring the building between her and the Battlemaster. She fires both medium lasers and a large laser at the Jenner. The heat was causing sweet to pour from her body...but it dropped just a fraction.

Fire both MLs and a LL into the Jenner.

The Jenner, high on it's perch, thought to rain fire down on Andrea, but missed with both lasers and SRMs. In return, she pivoted upward, and stabbed a trio of lasers upward, one catching the Jenner in the hip, shattering armor and fusing myomer. (Hit LL, 5 damage, Hip critical) The Battlemaster, with vehicles around it and the targets fleeing, opened fire with two lasers and missiles at the sheriff, and two rear lasers at the deputy. The Sherff took a laser blow to the cannon and leg, and the missiles chipped away more armor and structure from the proud little urbanmech. (Hit RA+RL+RT+LL+LL, 5+2+2+2+5 damage.) The twin rear lasers also scored a hit, (Hit RR, 5 damage, Motive system disabled, immobilized). In retalation, the Sheriff fired... but missed. He did manage to tap the Sentinel with a ruby laser beam (hit CT, 3 damage), and the packrat, as it skidded to a halt, belched a wave of petrol onto the Battlemaster, igniting it and trying to overload the heat sinks (Hit RT, +2 Heat).

The Falcon hopped to try and block the Wolverine, firing all guns, but again missed, and the Wolverine was able to split fire between Bruun, who had turned to attack it, and the Turhan. The Autocannon blew away chunks of road, but missed the APC, while the SRMs missed the firefly, but a single Medium laser lanced out and cut through the armor, striking a weak join and cracking the engine housing (Hit CT, 5 damage, Engine Critical, Small Laser Critical). For his part, Bruun fired four ruby beams, and one emerald, but only got 2 hits with the small lasers (Hit RA+RA, 3+3 damage). The Turhan fired twin azure beams, but neither struck home. The sentinel attempted to fire at the Cicada with all its weapons, but ultimately missed, while the Cicada, in turn, unloaded all it had into the fallen mech. Melting away supports and partially breaching engine containment, the Sentinel was left with very little holding it together. (Hit CT+RA, 10+2 damage, critical hit Gyro, 2x Engine Critical hit)

At point blank, the Wolverine attempted to punch the Firely, but Bruun ducked under it, kicking away some leg armor (Hit RL, 6 damage) The mech wobbled, but stayed up (Piloting roll passed). The Cicada calmly lifted one foot and then stomped down, smashed the left arm of the sentinel to scrap. (Hit LA, 8 damage, LA destroyed, 4 damage transfers to LT) Andrea, somewhat peeved, kicked the building holding the Jenner, caving in part of the wall, which, as if in slow motion, caved in the roof.

The Jenner smashed to earth in a wave of debris. (Hit by debris, RL 3 damage, critical hit hip) Slamming into the ground, the mech crumpled under the impact, barely holding together. (Hit CT 6 damage, hit RA 5 damage, RA destroyed, hit LL, 5 damage, critical hit foot, pilot injured, pilot awake)

The Jenner and Sentinel attempted to stand, but couldn't even move. They tracked their weapons, hoping for a lucky shot, while the Battlemaster began to back away, seemingly realizing the terrible odds if attempting a city fight. The Wolverine, perhaps called back, leapt skyward, arcing back toward its compatriot on twin plumes of flame.

"Chow, Andrea, don't let those bastards get up. I'll swing your way to lend a hand," Bruun calls over comms. It's been a hot day and he's in a hurry to cool the Firefly before it gets any worse.

"Chick, take position at 0813 to chase off that Wolverine and watch for the bad guys making moves to continue the fight. If those two want to go then we'll let them for now."

"Copy that, Bruun," Gillian echoed into the comms, as she set to methodically grinding the fallen Sentinel into the dirt.

No movement, kick and shoot 1 machine gun, 1 PPC at the fallen Sentinel. Ghosting instructions: keep battering the Sentinel until it stops squirming; after that, help out with the nearest other enemies.

Andrea just grunts and delivers a hard kick to the Jenner. Her two medium lasers join in on the fun.

As the hostiles began to fall back, the Wolverine gave a parting shot, with all its guns, landing a single glancing blow with a medium laser, (Hit LL, 2 damage). The remaining mechs couldn't find a target, or couldn't turn enough to fire at one.

On the other hand, Andrea fired twin emerald beams into the fallen Jenner, (hit LL, LL destroyed, 3 damage transfers to CT, hit RT, 5 damage) and Gillian continued to pummel the sentinel (hit RL+RA, 2+10 damage, RA destroyed). The Urbanmech split fire between targets again, and again missed that mighty cannon shot, creating another distant crater... but his small laser melted even more structure away from the Sentinel (hit LT, 3 damage), and the Falcon, firing a parting shot at the Wolverine, shredded most of the armor off the left leg with a ball of energy from the snub nosed PPC (Hit LL, 10 damage), and the doomed Packrat bravely fired twin SRMs, one of them slapping the wolverine. (Hit LT, 2 damage)

The Battlemaster, as it strode over the immobilized packrat, took care to stomp and grind the vehicle, tearing away armor and structure from the right side (hit RS, 17 damage, engine destroyed), and Andrea and Gillian each carefully lined up a stomp to the torsos of their fallen foes, crushing the reactor, gyro, and central structure underfoot, the fusion reactions failing as containment did, with a pitiful flare of light and fire which dispersed into wisps of smoke. (Hit CT, Jenner destroyed, Sentinel destroyed)

The two surviving hostiles continued to back away, weapons tracking for any additional threats, Wolverine hopping back while the Battlemaster stomped backward away from the town.

Andrea grins then opens her comms to the lance, “I...am going to try and draw them back. By taunting them in a way that I am pretty sure will make them real mad.”

She flicks on the open comms and speaks in Japanese, “To the Battlemaster and Wolverine currently fleeing. I am Andrea DeTroyes of the Federated Suns world of Kestrel. I just wish to express that it is a tragedy that your comrades in the DCMS do not possess the skill, courage, and fortitude of yourselves and your lance mates.”

She let a pause linger, “If they did First Prince Hanse Davion would already be giving his victory speech from the throne room of Unity Palace on Luthien.”

Advancing past the destroyed Sentinel, Gillian took a position in the trees near Andrea, turning her mech to face the retreating enemies.

Start 0311 facing S. Left, forward, forward, left. End 0512 facing NE. Don’t think I can see any bad guys from there, but if I can, I’ll take a shot at it. Overall goal: reposition to a good position where I can be ready to fight the bad guys if they turn back towards us - but will let them run away if they want.
