Day 18 (Dec 20-24ish)
The defenders struggled back into the fortress grounds as the blizzard picked up, checking for pursuit and finding none... and also not finding Bruun.
There was immediate call to go back out, shut down even more immediately by Yuri, pointing at the blizaard outside and stating, quite simply, that nobody was going anywhere, and that included the enemy. The defenses were left active, all sensors doing their best to keep a watch, along with a tracked APC near the gate to try and spot if the enemy came closer - and the mechwarriors were told to go sleep if they could while the tech teams enacted hurried repairs, quickly swapping out the damaged armor and putting the force back to a fighting trim.
As the day dawned, they were greeted by a fresh eight feet of snow covering the grounds, blowing back and forth in the wind, dusty and light. The enemy was advancing extremely slowly, taking positions beyond weapons range and then... waiting. Perhaps hoping for better ground... or perhaps something else entirely. So far, at least, they didn't seem to be pressing their attack, but jingoistic proposals to launch a pre-emptive strike or pick them off with long range weapons were quickly denied - there was no good angle for it, and if anyone attempting it fell, there would be no way to save them.
The risks far outweighed the rewards, and so both forces found themselves in an odd Terran standoff - neither making the first move just yet... while the staff of the Echo company still traveled about in the Fury, escorted by Alexei in the Shilone until the Vulcan could be patched up, the man seeming to run now on nothing save caffeine, nobody knowing when they last saw any of the command staff sleep.
Weather (Asphodel): The cloud cover doesn't clear, but temperatures generally rise, getting as high as 60f (15.5C) as the day wears on. The breeze means things are still cool, but pleasant.
Weather (Limbo): The storm brought a massive cold front, leaving Limbo hovering near a high of -10f(-23C), and dropping to -60f(-51C) at night. The snowfall ends as morning comes, though the clouds don't clear out - leaving the day gray and overcast, along with windy and shockingly cold.
Events:
- Parlay-- LA - Limbo
- We all Lift Together -- EE - Mech Combat
- Not Even A Mouse (EN, Optional Combat)
Special Rules: Threads outside the Calico or Jacob's Redoubt by members of the Echo Exploration team must include at least 1 member of the Fortunate Ones as security, or the Fortunate Ones will suffer a breach of contract.)
Current rules of engagement: Fire only when fired upon.
