Re: EVENT: Simulation Day: Alpha Team (Day T-1, Afternoon, S

Snorri keeps up his speed, cursing his bad luck on aim. He continues his Hussar in a loop, looking for a gap of cover where he can plan his next toreador pass

Re: EVENT: Simulation Day: Alpha Team (Day T-1, Afternoon, S

Maja, seeing both hostiles tracking toward her, ignited her jump jets and retreated behind the crest of the hill, breaking line of sight with the Dragon. Good for her, bad for Bruun. Still, the ShadowHawk tried to tag Wyvern as it landed, but despite immense sound and fury, with nine missiles, two lasers, and a volley of autocannon shells, as the explosions died down and dust cleared, the Wyvern was completely unscathed.

In return, The wyvern volleyed a single cloud of 10 missiles, but perhaps because of the intense bombardment, or a fluke of the wind, the entire volley scattered away to the left, peppering the woods with bursts of fire and shrapnel. As this happened, the Hussar slipped around the Wyvern, beginning to climb the hill, still letting heat vent away, albeit slowly, thanks to the massive output of the damaged engine shielding, now leaking waves of heat into the mech.

The Cicada, seeing an opportunity, zig-zagged up the hill, taking cover in the trees, ducking a shot from the back mounted laser on the Dragon and then lining up a clean shot of its own. As the targeting reticle crossed the right leg of the ShadowHawk, Gillian squeezed the triggers, and the PPC spat a burst of ionized particles, a crackling roar of lightning that flayed the armor from the limb and partially melted, and then fused, the foot and hip joints of the limb. (hit RL, 10 damage, armor destroyed, critical hit Foot+Upper Leg) A volley of LRMs from the Valkyrie rained around the mech, barely missing as it suddenly keeled over, the leg frozen and the pilot unable to compensate. The impact of the medium mech was concussive, and it didn't rise from the fall. The pilot was out cold. (Failed Piloting roll to remain standing, fall damaged RT+LT, 5+1 damage, Pilot failed roll to avoid injury, pilot injured, pilot failed roll to remain conscious)

As this exchange happened, a separate skirmish unfolded, Bruun having split his fire between ShadowHawk and Dragon with respectable accuracy. The missiles were spoiled by the unexpected success of other attacks, but the laser speared the Grand Dragon and boiled off armor, though the sharply angled limb got off lightly. (glancing hit LA, 2 damage)

In turn, the Dragon noting that the Wyvern had retreated, turned and loosed two medium lasers, one going wide, and the other scoring down the armor on the left leg of the Valkyrie, followed by a blossom of flame from the Grand Dragon's boxy, protruding torso as the LRM 10 spat a volley of missiles which hammered into the Valkyrie like grapeshot. (Hit LL+CT+RL, 5+5+1 damage) The PPC remained silent as the Dragon waited for an opportune target, now fighting patiently.

The Grand Dragon, seeing the ShadowHawk fall, backed up, and then strode alongside the road, tracking for targets until its ally stood back up.

“I’ve almost got this one,” Gillian called into the comms, as she nudged the controls forward slightly. The Cicada advanced cautiously towards the downed Shadow Hawk and brought her machine guns to bear to finish it off.

Movement: starting in hex 1003 facing south. Right, forward (light woods), left (4 movement points = walk). End in 0904 facing south.
Attack: fire particle cannon at SHD (range 3 = inside min range, walk penalty, immobile target). fire 2x machine guns at SHD (range 3 = long range, walk penalty, immobile target).

"Nice work Chow, I'll lend a hand." Snorri bounds over the hill, pivoting so the he was in melee range with the downed 'Hawk, with that machine adding to the cover from the Dragon

Snorri attempts to smack the Hawk with the virtual Hussar fists. As a final note to the frenetic surge he pops off a shot at the Dragon with the cooling laser.

Move 5 hexes north

Double punch immobile and prone Shadow Hawk

"Nice work, Chow, keep it up... Ah, it's ok Blondie, you're ok, you got this... Snorri, Eklund, get that downed hawk while you can... Mr Dragon and I are gonna keep dancing over here..."

Comments to the other pilots, to himself, to his -- mech? -- Bruun was caught up in the fight and not paying attention to whether his comms line was on or off. Liking how the pocket around the enemy mechs was collapsing, the veteran tried to help finish off the Shadow Hawk opportunistically while keeping pressure on the Dragon.

"He is on back like turtle, time to finish poor Hawk man."

Maja guns the thrusters back, taking her much protesting mech back up the hill to look down on the prone shadowhawk before she unloads the wyvern's entire arsenal into its prone form.

Re: EVENT: Simulation Day: Alpha Team (Day T-1, Afternoon, S

As the team moved in to try and knock out the maimed Shadow Hawk, the Grand Dragon lined up shots of hit's own, but surprisingly, many went wide, the PPC on the right arm and the ML on the left both whipping past Maja and Bruun harmlessly. The rear laser, however, tracked the Cicada and fired a beam that, had Gillian not flinched away, would have speared directly into the canopy. As it was, the side of the torso groaned as metal slagged away, leaving a gaping hole which even cracked the engine containment shield. (Hit Head, Edge reroll hit LT, 5 damage, armor destroyed, floating crit hits engine)

In turn, the various mechs of Team Alpha circled in on the ShadowHawk and poured on the fire.

The wyvern, firing it all, saw the two ruby small lasers miss, but the azure beam of the large laser struck home, melting away armor, followed by four of the six SRMs, and four of ten LRMs. (Hit RT+RT+RA+RA+LT, 8+2+2+2+2+4 damage)

The Hussar, firing at the Grand Dragon over the prone ShadowHawk couldn't land the shot, though it was convenient to blame the onslaught happening right in front of him.

The Valkyrie, in turn, fired its weapons in a split again. The Medium laser missed the Dragon, but the LRMs bracketed the fallen ShadowHawk and pummeled the head and torso further. (Hit HD+CT, 5+1 damage, Pilot Injured)

The Cicada chipped in as well, slamming machine gun bullets into the armor, and then cracking apart what little remained with the PPC, leaving the mech torso exposed and half shattered. (hit CT+CT, 2+8 damage)

As the dust began to clear and weapons cycled, the Hussar casually bent over the fallen ShadowHawk, the hunched posture and double jointed legs giving it an animal look, and it grabbed and ripped away more of the central torso structure, mangling the stabilizing Gyro as it did. (2 punches, hit RT+CT, 3 damage each, Gyro Critical hit)

The Grand Dragon marched up the hillside, moving to cover the Shadow Hawk, but the second mech stumbled to its feet (Piloting roll to stand up success), tottered downhill toward the trees, and then collapsed once again. (Piloting roll failed, pilot unconscious again) Increasingly pathetic.

Maja tried to ping the shadowhawk with her comms
((Presumably it going to our glorious commander.))

“Powering down the machine Shadowhawk. Do not allow yourself to be destroyed for nothing.”

((Otherwise the wyvern will turn left but take no other action this turn.))

Re: EVENT: Simulation Day: Alpha Team (Day T-1, Afternoon, S

Gillian winced as damage lights flashed all over her instrument panel, but she knew there was no time to address them - she had to keep pressure on the enemy.

“I’m closing in on the Dragon,” she radioed. “Wish me luck!” The Cicada advanced.

Re: EVENT: Simulation Day: Alpha Team (Day T-1, Afternoon, S

Bruun's open comm line features a string of curses about the targeting algorithm in this simulator, but progress was being made. Hearing Gillian's plan, he feels justified in what he wants to do at this point anyway: go buckle that damaged leg of the Dragon the old fashioned way.

With a straight line to the Dragon's flank, the Valkyrie breaks into a run, powering up its laser for a close range shot to accompany the hopefully brutal kick attack to come...
